A desperate Peru is a Dangerous Peru. They are improving especially now that they stopped playing alot of their older players. My XI would be this. Galindez Torres, Pacho, Hincapie Preciado, Franco, Gruezo, Caicedo, Estupinan Yeboah, Rodriguez Subs: Chavez, Vite, Sarmiento, Mendez if we are doing well after 60min: Galindez Preciado, Pacho, Hincapie, Chavez Mendez, Caicedo Yeboah, Vite, Sarmiento Rodriguez Maybe sub in Paez in the final quarter.
We shouldn’t play with 3 CBs against Peru. It’s overkill. I’d like to see Vite or Paez in place of Gruezo or Franco. A midfield Franco, Gruezo, and Caicedo is too defensive.
I think Fossati is close to figuring out how to have a dynamic and fast play Peru. He knows Quito well. First half I think we should go defensive in contrast to the last times where we went defensive in the final half and let Peru grow and take advantage of our mistakes. Also I think Becaccece can have Franco play well offensively like Sampaoli did in Mineiro. Gruezo marking and letting Franco and Caicedo move up the field. This could be a game where Franco shines and possibly scores. All our second half changes can push to be more offensive. The rumored line up I saw where similar to mine. Only that Paez is rumored to start over Yeboah.
Nothing more dangerous than a coach who knows the altura factor and our players deficiencies.being too defensive will only make them think they can beat us.anyone has a link?
Ecuador isn’t a team that can score goals at will. If we take too much of a conservative approach in the first half then we’re going to be giving away first half away and we’ll be playing catch up in the second. That’s where Peru can be dangerous. If Ecuador starts to get desperate in the second half Peru can exploit the spaces that will be left open for them and hit us on the counter. The NT is also prone to mistakes which wouldn’t help matters. Peru’s strategy will be to time waste and foul. If we can take an early lead then they’ll have no option but to chase the game. They’ll undoubtedly leave open spaces and as that’s where Ecuador can put them away.

Kinda crazy to start both Paez and Mercado over guys like Sarmiento and Yeboah. Becaccece seems like he is going to be a real wild card.
I’m okay with Mercado getting the start. He played well against Brazil. Sarmiento can be a good option to come off the bench in the second half. Paez shouldn’t be starting tho. I would have liked to see Vite or Yeboah. Preciado and Yeboah on the right wing would have given the Peruvians a hard time.
Halftime. Gutless performance by Ecuador. No sense of articulation between the lines and Mercado and Kendry are ghosts so Enner is left on an island. Sarmiento and Yeboah must come in. 80% possession, 7 shots and 3 on target- not good enough.
Enner is our captain and there’s a reason why he’s there. The rest of the team needs to feed a player like him. Prior to the goal, that just wasn’t happening effectively. Yeboah came in to kickstart the team- loving the energy.
There’s room for improvement. The defense is the team’s strongest attribute. Franco was solid. Enner scored the game winner. Hopefully this leads to a goal scoring run. Preciado had a poor game. I’m confident he’ll bounce back from this performance. The team needs a RB that can challenge Preciado for the starting spot. Hopefully Espinoza can be that player. If not then it may be time to give Quintero an opportunity.
Today, Franco shuts me up. He was basically flawless and so disciplined. He played similarly against Brazil by almost totally shutting out Vinicius Jr. On a 2 game streak with lock-down performances, I'm convinced- he's the guy (for now). Overall, the a few thing that seem clearer are: 1) We still are dealing with a bit of rustiness, and we need to shake that off quickly- Uruguay is up next (away), and the table is tight so we need to avoid dropping points. Preciado and Pervis were very rough compared to their optimal form. Kendry was basically not productive. 2) Nos falta atrevimiento. Sadly, I think we need to recall Plata. We just struggle to punch it through the middle and we are really needing to take some pressure off the wings. We don't have the height to really challenge taller defenders consistently, and we don't get enough bodies into the box to make centering the ball a real source of goal scoring opportunities- IMO, today's goal was a fluke by all accounts (though good for Enner- he needed this and lord knows we needed it) 3) Kendry needs to start on the bench. He's plateauing, and it's not entirely his fault...he's still too young and we can't / shouldn't rely on him that much. These types of flop matches can really get into a kid's head. Still too young and impressionable to be given this much responsibility. 4) We are still suffering from a sort of identity crisis though the brightest spot is the defense. 5) For once in our life, it might seem like Ecuador might have a truly formidable defense. Now, we need to focus on the offensive pieces. IF Moises is our new captain now- good for him, but Enner must stay in the squad regardless of his form/streak. We need some senior guys in the locker room, and if he scored tonight and showed everyone that he can overcome adversity- it's a lesson the team needs to pick up loud and clear.
Paraguay is our next opponent. We then play Uruguay. It’s a valid point tho. We can’t drop points especially home.
Franco for sure has become defensively disciplined. There's time Preciado stays up too high but Franco covers him so well you'd think he's the fullback. I still think we need to play a 4231 with Vite in the hole and Yeboah + Sarmiento on the wings. It would allow us to transition the ball up the field quicker and counter much better.
Yeboah finally presented at Venezia. I think the kid will do well since he isn't afraid to take on players and Serie A can only improve his gameplay given how strong it is to crack those defenses.
