Sadly, points dropped when other results work in our favor. The next game is an exact carbon copy scenario of where Ecuador was 4 years ago. Peru is on the ropes and we can really deal a big blow to their qualification chances...let's see what happens. The lads need to really turn up in Quito.
Probably one of the most boring games I’ve ever watched in my life. Beccacece made a mistake in not calling up another RB. Franco was solid defensively but he provided no width. He should have called up Quintero. Preciado was suspended and Hurtado was injured. Options were limited. I’m a fan of Mendez but he has to earn his spot back on the NT. He hasn’t played in months. It made no sense in starting him against Brazil. We would have been better off with Gruezo starting alongside Moises. Or better yet Franco would have been able to start alongside Moises if Beccacece didn’t improvise him as a RB. Enner shouldn’t start. At best he should come off the bench. Ecuador has to stop with the BS of playing with three CBs. It didn’t work under Sanchez Bas and it’s not gonna work under Beccacece.
Ecuador has to beat Peru. Losing or tying is not an option. If Peru’s result holds up they can tie us in points if they beat us. If we lose Chile can tie us in points as well if they beat Bolivia.
I don’t want to admit it but we need Plata back. Sarmiento and Rodriguez were quiet and Kendry is not that guy yet.
Yep,we don’t have anyone that takes on defenses like he does,Yeboah did it ,but they didn’t start him,Sarmiento wasn’t really on last night ,usually Sarmiento and Yeboah make a good partnership, but we need that extra that Plata has to open up defenses and feed the others,we’re to static.
Yeboah and Plata are the best right wingers Ecuador has at the moment. Mena is past his prime. Mercado (he can also play on the left) and Anthony Valencia are talented but I don’t think they’re ready to challenge for a starting spot at the moment. Plata’s talent has never been questioned. His issues have been related to off the field matters. Ecuador could be at their best with Yeboah starting and Plata coming on in 65-70th minute.
Losing Minda was a big blow. If he didn't get injured, I think the tactical setup would have been a lot different. We don't have that deep of a bench to yet to have a team of lego pieces that we can add and remove to keep a smooth system in place. I suspect that losing Minda forced the coach to start making other changes that led to other position changes that suit his tactical approach. Remember, this is his first official match. Going to Brazil is basically a baptism by fire. Stats don't lie either- This was the most even match we've probably played in Brazil in recent memory (as visitors). Irrespective of how flat Brazil was, we basically dominated the second half and there's some positives to pull from the game, too. Hopefully we make the right tweaks for the next game and see another outcome. The guys should be motivated to turn around a negative result vs. Peru from 4 years ago. There's a lot riding on this game.
Tbh this game had L written on it from the start, new coach, new tactics, injuries and questionable call-ups. I think our game against Peru will be a realistic look at what the NT will be like under this coach. I wouldn’t panic over an away loss to Brazil.
Realistically a tie would have been like a win for us. Only Argentina has beat them in eliminatorias at home, and this was a historic talented Argentina vs a historically abysmal Brazil. On a side note: did anyone hear Franklin Salas words on Campana? I really dont know what Campana is like as a teammate but the fact that people have such strong disdain for him because of his wealthy upbringing is disheartening. Salas words were totally off base and uncalled for. We have called many MLS players during the past years. Esta Seleccion no queire a Ricos, no queire naturalizados, and to add insult to injury it feels like the U-20 that won a third place in Poland is being bullied by the U-20 after that never got to play. Here is the starting lineup of that tourney; who here has had consistent call ups and starting time recently?
I'm an Inter Miami fan. I watch a lot of the matches and go to the stadium when we can. Campana does not belong on the NT because he sucks...not because he is wealthy or comodo. I want him to succeed and play well, score goals and be a game changer but he simply is not that player. During the Copa America with Suarez and Messi playing for their NT, he had the chance to carry Inter Miami starting every match. He did fuck all.
I don’t understand why people give Salas the time of day. There’s constructive criticism and bad criticism. Everything that comes out of his mouth is always hot garbage.
His numbers are not good even if he is top scorer of Miami. 10 goals a season are bad numbers. 10 goals a season is more impressive in serie A than mls as I consider our league more competitive.
Since June Campana has only scored two goals. If he were starting games and scoring goals then he should get another opportunity with the NT. The narrative that he hasn’t gotten an opportunity with the NT is incorrect. He’s played in 15 games and hasn’t scored one goal.
I really wanna see Vite take up the CAM role against Peru I feel the kid would open up space with his shooting and passing Plus we don't lose much defensively like we do with Paez
I’d like to see a midfield of Moises, Franco, and Vite. Mendez has to earn his spot back on the NT. Gruezo played better against Brazil and that’s saying something. I’m not sure what’s going on with Paez. He hasn’t been playing well recently. He can come off the bench against Peru.
Agreed- they are coming in desperate...and we should be too. Can't cede too much space to any opponent especially with a 3 point deduction on the books. We must go with our tried and true formation and hope they can score. That said, what's the deal with Pervis and Piero now basically overlapping each other on the wing? That redundancy is going to cause some inefficiencies.
Pervis shouldn’t start. He only played a handful of minutes with Brighton to start the season. He’s coming off injury so it’s best to slowly ease him back into action until he’s 100% match fit. If Beccacece goes with a back line of 3 I’d like to see Yaimar start. If he goes with a back line of 4 then I’d like to see Chavez start.
Understood. From a performance stand point I think it's fair he gets the heat. What grinds my gears is; (assuming he's not a piece of crap pretentious douchebag around his teammates because of his money) WHY do they constantly have to hate on him because of his wealth? Tomorrow is going to be a huge test of Becca and this squad. Disculpenme por ser soberbio but I have no doubt that BAS would have won this game, even if scraping by the skin of his teeth. Alfaro and Quintero lost these games during the early spring lull that always plagues us. Historically we are strong start of Sept-December. I expect 3 points, and reassuring scoreline. 3-1 or so. Y eso que Peru no puede hacer goles lol
On your first point regarding the money- it's a very clear thread in our national narrative. Put simply, we are generally envious and lean into hater territory when it comes to the wealthy. We have so many social divisions which have never really been addressed or cured, and it manifests itself similar to what Franklin Salas says in public...or what might be a seething unrest across other team members with Campana. He was not born into poverty and played not because of need, but rather a "want". He can easily go to an elite university and have a career which many others would not get the chance to replicate for whatever the reason. It's the same reason my uncle's mercedes in Quito has been keyed up on the street, and the same reason why anyone will always default to "corrupcion", "narcotrafico", or something else whenever talking about someone with money- and if the person is somewhat likeable, they'll still find a way to hate by saying things like "he changed", etc. In essence, that's it, and Salas is wrong, misguided, and downright ignorant. Resentimiento social is the only way to categorize it. The best thing Campana can do is literally turn into a record breaker and just smash the nets. Make them all eat s**t. Though he isn't that guy either. As for tomorrow's game, I just look back on 4 years ago- Peru was on the ropes, we came out flat, and they caught us lacking. We need to turn the page and come out swinging. If there was a game in this tournament to repeat the goleada we gave Colombia back at home in the '22 WCQ, we need to do it tomorrow. It will temper lots of moods and give the team some swagger to tackle the next matchdays the following month.
Ecuador has to score early tomorrow. Peru’s strategy will center around time-wasting and fouling. Enner hasn’t been in good form. Rodriguez has trouble finishing plays. If they miss goal scoring opportunities then they’ll get frustrated and start to press. Peru will look to do damage on the counter. Peru isn’t in a good moment but they shouldn’t be underestimated. Ecuador did that last time and they lost.
