it's generally agreed that the fifa rankings mean next to nothing unless you are trying to get seeded for the WC. and since we are still a long long time away from being seeded, i think that they shouldn't be looked into too much. a much better scale (if you want to look at rankings) is the elo scale, imo.

Yeah, we are talking about hat in another thread. no doubt the coefficient dropped as the 2006 WC no longer counts in Ecuador's favor and i am sure the heavy loses vs Brazil and Paraguay plus the lose to Venezuela in Quito are hurting Ecuador's ranking. These are games that are 4 years old....but despite that - the question on everyone's mind was, "how the hell did Peru get so high up?"

    Re: Ecuador Rivalries

Yeah, we know. Didn't you read the press release?

Zurich - The International Federation of Association Football released
today the newest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking list. A drastic change
has been made to the ranking algorithm, however, and they are no longer
a reflection of past performance. It is now a prediction of expected
performance in the year to come.

FIFA has enlisted the knowledge and expertise of Paul the Octopus to
    come up with these rankings.

"Ecuador will acquire another lackluster Colombian coach who will
achieve a 100% loss record in the Copa America for the third time in a
row." Paul was quoted as saying through an intepreter (Google Translate).

Experts are foreseeing a mass exodus of Ecuadorian talent towards their
neighbors to the south. "It's the only way I can explain how Peru's
ranking is expected to be so high" one critic said.

In other news, FIFA has decided to discard all goal-line technology
developments. Said Sepp Blatter: "We will enlist Paul to predict ahead
of time whether or not the ball will cross the line. I can't believe we
    haven't thought about this before."

    Re: DT de Ecuador

I just found out that Ecuador is ranked 58 in the world.:eek:WTF is up with that? Ecuador hasn't even played friendlies for like two months and they're ranked like this the worst South American team. Im pretty sure that Venezuela didn't play friendlies either yet they're ranked higher than Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru as well, what's up with this is this some plot by FIFA trying to ******** over Ecuador??? Venezuela gets the easiest friendlies ever and they get ranked 48??? WTF??? They're friendlies include facing Netherland Antilles, Aruba and small island countries and they're ranking goes up. Yet Ecuador gets ********ed over like this??

You have to be kidding me. And Chirboga is a ********ing moron he broke his promise once again I don't doubt that at the end of the year he just says "oh well I'll make Sixto Vizuete take the helm of the national team once again, I'm confident that he's the perfect strategist." Guys a ********ing moron I hope someone threats him and sends him the ******** out of the country just like they did when they overthrew Batista in Cuba. Bullshit this guys a complete arse and he doesn't know wtf he's doing, he should let someone with half the brain he has take charge of the federation because he is making us a mockery right now. I also wouldn't doubt that |Ecuador will lose to Venezuela in Quito once again if we don't get a good coach ASAP.

I don't think anybody with any sense will agree with these rankings. Even Maradona mentioned Ecuador specifically when he said CONMEBOL should have more teams in the World Cup. That's because these days, Ecuador is seen as between #4 and #6 in almost any analysis of South American countries.

The only way I can see this ranking making any sense is if friendlies and Copa America results from the past few editions are given equal weight as qualifying games. We bring our 'A' game to the qualifiers, but in friendlies and Copa America, we have an embarrassing record to be honest.
