The south american teams that qualified for the U-20 world cup obviously sent their U-20 teams there. So, Brazil & Argentina sent U-17 teams to the Juegos Panamericanos, and got eliminated. Ecuador & Bolivia sent in U-20 teams, and made it to the semi-finals
