With most of the top players on these two teams leaving, what's the outlook for them? Have they found talented kids to come in for next spring?
Mr. Seadog, You speaking of the current U15's which were last years U14s? Where did the Eclipse top players go? I was told that they didn't really lose anyone but maybe that was the PR line. King Kenny
Wind U15s will be pretty good. They still have some strong players remaining (e.g., Regional ODP player, and a frosh who scored some Varsity goals this year), and they had a number of good new players show up to tryouts. Even at this age, there are still a number of strong players who have not yet migrated to one of the Academy clubs. That's not saying that they will have an easy ride in MRL top division, or win State Cup, but they'll have some game in them.
I had heard the Eclipse lost DC and the midfielder #10? who is a "smashing" player to the Fire. The CFJ's have MR with them also.
wouldnt suprise me, a team like that had to have kids who were ready to shine when it was their turn.
Wonder what the Fire will do with all these players, they can't possibly have room on a 20-man Academy roster for all the '92s and '93s they are collecting. I mean, let's look at the '93s at the Fire. Bunch of kids from the outstanding Fire Juniors crop. Some kids from Magic pool, couple of Wind guys, maybe some of these Eclipse players (not sure of birthdays). And count 'em, 5 early '93s off last year's Sockers U15 pool, including 4 who were on the Manchester Cup squad. I haven't even touched guys from the Hispano leagues and the western suburban clubs teams, who will want the free tuition and prestige associated with Academy. They'll be expressing interest, too. Crowded house.
I struggle to see any of the U15's dropping into the academy teams. The academy U16 programs are for the 92s if you look at the rosters this year. The rest are sometimes called developmentals to keep their egoes happy. At this level jumping a year or even two is pretty tough. Could it be that the kids are going because they want to be with programs that will prepare them for the academy and for the increased competition.
I think you are correct. A late 93 or early 94 will really struggle against an early 92. However, the Fire Academy seems to be taking a different approach from others in the Chicago area. I believe that the Fire U16 Academy have a few late 93s and even early 94s on their full academy roster. This is in stark contrast with the Magic Academy who look like they will have a U16 roster stacked with older 92s. The Magic U16 Academy should beat the Fire if/when they play. In fact, if the Magic U16 Academy fields 11 early 92s they had better beat the Fire. It may be that winning is not what is most important to the Fire staff as it does seem they are taking the word "development" to heart. In the end this is probably good for Chicago area soccer. Different teams, different styles and different philosophies.
so what about the Eclipse then? I know there are eclipse people on this forum ( I heard from them when they kicked my son's teams b*tt) They are in the MRL Premier division in the spring and have lost their two top players. Have they been able to get some good players into the club to help fill the voids those guys left? I know the Academy stuff is the big thing but I wanted to use this thread to talk about the U15's ( who arent in the academy
The U15 age group should be quite interesting. I think the Wind (lminus JS, RA, and some) and the Eclipse (minus Lalos & DC) are going to be very different. I've also heard that the Demo are gone. Any truth to that? I have also heard that Ajax had someone leaving as well. So who's left? Sockers and Magic just like the old days? Isn't it interesting how fast the scene changes? Not long ago, it was Wind, Ajax, Schwaben, Demo, & Eclipse dominating the top 5 almost on a yearly basis at this age group. Who are the newcomers to watch? Fire? FC?
Prolly Juniors. But as '93s, they're presumably in the hunt for being added to the Academy next year. Although Fire have a huge amount of aspiring '94s, too, as well a bunch of current 93/94s on Academy. Very very crowded house.
The Demolition is gone. Most players have gone to FC United, a couple to Schwaben, one to Sockers, one to CFJ. Not sure about the rest.
I was wondering why there were 40 players listed on the Sockers U16 Academy roster... http://ussda.demosphere.com/teams/10876653/10994486-10876678/TEAM.html
That was obviously a very preliminary roster, had all possible candidates including some guys who have since left the club. Anyway, back to U15 discussion, sorry about that. The Academies will soon disrupt this age group (already is for Fire, not for Magic and Sockers), but for this year I guess Fire & Magic are the big dogs, if Eclipse and Wind are weakened? I am not an expert here, please let me know if there are other top contenders.
Would the U15 Sockers be considered a "big dog"? Have they lost any talent to the academy or other clubs?
I would say the big dogs are (not in any order) Magic, Fire Jr. and Sockers. My projection is that Wind u15 is going to be a good team but not a dominating team they once were. Sockers picked up two good players (one from Demo and another from Wind).
Very interesting at Sockers: with AC, LC, and DS listed on the USSDA roster. They'd better be developmental and available for their regular U15 campaign (National League & State Cup) or they can have a rough time. Thought that SM & CG should have been considered as well. The 2 new players (I'm guessing ZC from Demo and JK from the Wind) are good additions. Did they take the spots of those listed on the USSDA, or someone got bumped? Magic after winning the State Cup must be considered a top dog especially when they are keeping the U15 off their USSDA roster. CFJ I'm not so sure. What have they acquired since some of the younger ones are now back on their U14 roster?
JohnR did your son switch teams to the Magic? That is what it seems like in the super Y league roster for the magic.
This may be the wrong forum (Sockers V Magic might have been more sppropriate). But I'm interested if JohnR or TNL might be generous enough to shed some of their thoughts on choosing among the Big3 (or is it advisible to stay with the other non Big3 teams that are only strong at specific age groups like Eclipse or Schwaben) when it comes to the crucial U16/U17 years of their kids. I think your insight would be useful to those of us at the U15 juncture.
