ECJ decided the case of the Slovakian handballer Maros Kolpak, who plays for German Bundesliga promoted club SG Kronau/Östringen. So far you could say that handball has nothing to do with soccer, but the matter is foreigner restriction:

According to the statutes of the German Handball Association (DHB) two non-EU players are allowed to play in a game. ECJ ruled that Slovakia has an associative agreement with the EU and therefore Kopak does not belong to the group of non-EU-foreigners. ECJ declared an illegal discrimination in this case. With this judgement a foreigner restriction with 77 countries that have an associative agreement with the EU is impossible; mainly this are countries from North Africa, the Pacific and Caribbean Area.
