well if they keep the lead and win, going into the match in Holland, the Dutch have to score 3 and hold Scotland to nil based on the away goal rule.
To quote Strong Bad: "IT'S OVER!" From the Soccernet live commentary, it seemed like Rab Douglas had a fantastic game...hopefully Martin O'Neill benches that loser Hedman and puts Douglas back on the pitch where he belongs.
*does a Scottish dance* My Dutch mate isn't going to be happy, but my other mate will be. When is the 2nd leg, tues or wed?
This is wrong on many levels. The Dutch will advance to the Euros if they win by 2 goals. A 2-0 win will give them a 2-1 aggregate win. If they win 1-0 it goes to extra time and possibly penalties. If Holland win by 1 but Scotland score at least 1 goal, Scotland advance. The away goals rule does not mean that away goals count double. Away goals only come into play if the aggregate score is level. Then whoever has the most away goals advance. I know this is is very basic information, but so often it is misrepresented in these boards and in the N American media.
What a result. Berti maximised everything he could get out of that team - perfect selection, perfect substitutions. Combined with hard work and a little luck (more so in defence than the goal) and this results. I still think the Dutch will have too much for us, principally because we cannot afford to defend for the full match (like the second half today). We have to somehow get enough control of posession and territory. If we can do this, then we WILL create chances (which is aided by the suspension of Jaap Stam).
I would think an away goal for the Scots is a must. I dont see a 0-0 match in Holland. One away goal just might be enough.
