People complain about having all these minnows in the expanded tourney but I got to say, Albania and Georgia are giving all these critics a big, "Fuck You Too," right back atcha!

Really worried about the Spanish side. They've made 10 changes, yet the phylosophy, and confidence is still worryingly good.

Modric missed a penalty but redeems himself moments later to give Croatia the 1-0 lead

That was a lazy penalty, but the rebound a minute later was presence of mind exemplified.

    They are scum.

The only accepctable outcome when facing scum is to win. Anything less is unacceptable.

Anyway, their R16 opponents might do the world a favour and send them packing.

    Seriously, fvck Spain x10,000,000,000.

This format isn't the most ideal.

If the score line stays as is in both the games, we have a situation where Italy are 3rd on 3 points and don't know for the next 2-3 days if they have qualified or have been eliminated.

Makes the logistics difficult. Should they book their team hotel for a further few days? And to what end? To watch the other teams play on the TV in their rooms?

You can thank Platini for that. He's the one who pushed for the expanded Euros.

Here's the thing: The expanded Euro is not much of a problem.
The problem is the concept of the 4 best third places.

Rather just make 4 groups of 6 teams and have the top 2 from each group qualify for the semifinals.
Or if UEFA is generous, have the top 4 from each group line up for the R16.

Will even make for a slightly longer tournament.

Italy kept trying and they equalize.

I seem some parallels with the Germany game yesterday.

Heart break for Croatia and Modric. :(

That's a beauty of a finish by Zaccagni. Was really hoping Croatia would be able to see it out though.

Difference is, Germany were better than Swiss on all accounts and measures. You can't say that about Italy vs Croatia. But it's true, you can only start celebrating a game against Germany or Italy when the bus leaves the stadium.

Also that Zaccagni goal has an uncanny resemblance to the Del Piero goal against us in the semis of WC 2006.

The timing of the goal. The soft touch. The way it was curled into the goal. In both the goals the strikers were also in almost the same position vis a vis the goal/goalkeeper.

naw who cares about Croatia who are on track with GS exit, mediocre team with a done and dusted Golden Generation.

I prefer our rivals Italy progress and go as far as possible.

Best of luck on your side of the bracket.. hope we meet in the finals (although I still think won't peak on this cycle until next WC or Euro).

This Netherlands-Austria game might be the match of the tournament so far.
