Hungary will play this match as if it were a final.

Not really…4 points will take you to 2nd round as 3rd place team also will have a good chance…so Hungary will play for a point and try to hit back in the counter…

France provided a good example of why Nagelsmann deserves cred. Obviously Germany lost to Austria recently so they are decent. But look how dysfunctional they looked. Just relying on Mbappe to do something.

But they do also show how the priority is to be hard to score against. Something which has been a major issue for us over recent years.

I do think France are somewhat overrated in that beyond Mbappe and Griezmann who are top players the rest of their attack is a bit hit and miss. Dembele is pretty infuriating to watch and Muani still doesn't look comfortable at NT level. Thuram I've never thought was anything special at Gladbach, although he has maybe developed more in Italy (I haven't seen a lot of him). Giroud despite his age is probably still their best bet at CF.

Agreed - that is why I posted the gegenpressing watch back. Germany played really well for 45 vs Japan then coughed up two goals - that's what Nagelsmann needs to make sure does not happen. See also Belgium last night

Though about it to. Maybe i am subjective/ biased.
But dont think its a big gap, rather a small one if any at all, between quality of our players compared to England and France.

From England 3 players comes to mind that i would
really like to have in our team starting. Walker, Bellingham and Kane.

From France I would like Mbappe and the full backs and maybe Saliba.

However one could argue that they would want our goalkeepers, Rüdiger (in Madrid form) and Kroos and probably one of Wirtz/Musiala.

Then France and England got quite broad squads.

Though its mostly about finding the right mix between solid players, and players with X-factor I think. Having 11 world class players could probably also lead to other problems, considering hierarchy etc

Looking at squad market values I think is a little missleading as the likes of Kroos, Neuer, Müller, Gündogan and others have a really low value as age is a big factor in valuation. Generational change is coming after euros for our squad.

Thanks to the ridiculous 4 teams out of 6 3rd place finishers will get to the round of 16, 3 points could get you there really. As long as you don't get blown out of the water like Scotland did you are a chance.

Hungary will fancy themselves to beat Scotland, so as you said I can see them just sit back and play counter, play for a point and hope for 3.

Ideal scenario for us to go 2-0 up before half time, force Hungary out and then pick them on the counter in the second half.

Our big goal haul from match day 1 means we don't have to do anything silly, play balanced patient game and let the game come to us.

Completely agree. Need to start strong and then play strong defense in the second half.

I expect we'll see a similar pattern to a few games in this tournament, Hungary will probably sit in a low block and look for counters. An early goal would really help but if not patience is key, no need to overcommit and expose ourselves on the break.

Yep. Hungary will be ultra conservative today in a low block. Knowing, a defeat and their pretty much eliminated.

It's imperative, were disciplined and move the ball quickly in phases. And patience will be key.

An early goal will soothe my nerves.

As we go goal less for extended periods of time, I'll get flash backs form the Korea game at WM18. :(

We need to run at them in the opening periods. I'd start Havertz (ahead of Fullkrug) in this one.

German H2H against Hungary is surprisingly balanced.

    Germany 13 wins
    Hungary 12 wins
    Draws 12

    Goals: Germany 74 Hungary 68

In the last 4 games between the two sides, Germany has lost 1 and drawn 3.

I find it odd that both teams are playing in their away kits.

Very nice corner routine from Kroos to Andrich forcing a great block from his volley.

We need to make sure we don't get sloppy and lose possession in midfield, they are a threat on counters.

Glad to see Musiala score, he's more productive in Euro than
Muller, Sane, Gnabry, Werner, Brandt etc.

Musiala at Euro 2020 played major role in us making R16 as we needed him to unlock Ds but had no end product. Musiala at WC22 played role but kept missing very important chances vs Spain which would have won us that game. Was best player in that game too.

now Musiala 2 goals in 2 games.

Hungary should have scored there, LOL, so close.

if we win this match we basically progress to R16.
