I'm going to combine the Post-leg 1 and Pre-leg 2. Columbus played a solid first 75 minutes, but a Parkhurst giveaway has the Crew coming home trailing 2-1, but at least we've got an away goal--a 1-0 home win would put us through. No injuries, but Sauro and Afful are on a yellow.
After last year, it could be a lot worse. We will have to win by 2 goals because I don't see us keeping MTL scoreless. I expected better from MP. Foul or not, he put his team in a bad position. I remember why I hate Drogba so much, guy is the strongest on the field yet the weakest. He goes down easier than anyone. Very frustrating to see a guy like Meram knock him over on a 50/50. No card those dives either.
The parkhurst give away goal reminded me of Claudio Reyna in WC 2006 against Ghana. Just an unfortunate, afwul gift. I forgot how frustrating it is to watch Drogba, especially against your team.
You might have to give it up. There is simply no way he's getting suspended--he's the biggest star left in the eastern conference.
As ineffective as Kei was tonight, I was hopin to see JackMac in the last bit. Or Sauro off. However, I would have happily let Sauro take a red if he knocked Drogba out for next week while earning it.
You, know, I'll take it. That road goal is so crucial and I believe the Crew tactics reflected it. No urgency needed to level and risk a counter. If it wasn't for an epic brain fart by Parkhurst, the Crew really would have been in the driver seat. Only worry was Kamara and Finley had forgettable play. They should have been a bit more dangerous against a slower less rested side. Otherwise, not fretting much.
McInerney really needed to be subbed on. He was great last week. Why not use him against his old team?
I usually don't buy into the star player treatment as much as others. However, Drogba was getting everything. Annoying.
As far as tactics go, I really would have like us to switch the point of attack more often and quicker. With MTL playing midweek, I wanted to see them tire out. It seemed like we picked a side and stuck with it. We didn't use Afful enough and tried to force everything through the left. Defensively I feel we did well except giving up set pieces. We aren't great at defending them and MTL is good at them. Stupid fouls came back to hurt us and nearly bury us. Referee wasn't bad, aside from falling for Drogba's antics.
Parkhurst needs to be gone in the offseason. Drogba is a pain in the ass but that's part of his game, to get inside your head. Agreed that we'll probably need 2 at home.
If we allow them to foul all game like they did tonight, we cannot win. Their first effort when getting to our man is to grab, trip or hack him, and they let it all go. Montreal's game was nothing to be proud of.
It's a twitter poll asking if Garber will let Drogba play next game without any punishment. Guess which answer between Yes/No is winning?
We did play poorly, but getting slammed all night takes a toll. We should have foeced them to chase, not let them get close enough to hack the night away.
lol chill. It was a super shitty thing to do and arguable worthy of a red. He's got a penchant for gamesmanship and being kind of a dick but, no, he's still one of my favorite players of all time.
