Our lovable heroes have made it to the semifinal! In the sternest test of the season so far, the Crew faced a yellow wearing group from the south. These imposters, who strive to not just wear the same colors and talk in the same manner, but to actually replace our Crew. The imposters defended with valor, trying to grind our protagonists into a stalemate. For much of the contest, they were able to hold their lines and prevent the superior and original yellow clad heroes from achieving a breakthrough. As the time went on, observers grew more nervous, wishing for someone to lead their Crew to victory. And just as it appeared a stalemate was inevitable, a foreign mercenary, who is a polarizing figure amongst the fans, struck in the center, finally dismantling the stout defense of the imposters, in both mind and body. This soon became clear, as not long after, an old favorite again hit them in the center, and the rout was on. Now, just one win away from the final, they are faced with an old nemesis. A respected leader, with a pedigree of victory who a generation ago defeated the Crew year after year. He is leading a new force now, one from the northeast who has also beaten our Crew in the tournament every time they have faced. Some of the most heartbreaking defeats ever suffered by our heroes have come at the hands of this man and this team. Will this new Crew, decimated with absences to its roster, overcome all the odds and slay its demons? Or will the nemeses prevail yet again? It all comes down to this! Victory at any cost!
Everyone who is healthy needs to go get tested to bring down our positivity rate so we can have fans. I've already taken 18 tests, so y'all need to do your part.
Another positive COVID test yesterday, perhaps two. Up to 8. Maybe 9. https://amp.dispatch.com/amp/6475412002?__twitter_impression=true We need to put the team in a bubble. Then put each guy in a bubble inside of that.
Rumor's are the 8th positive is Mohktar. The 9th is an inclusive. Here is to hoping that there isn't any more current roster members infected. And that all infected members are healthy and recover.
Maybe they had a whiff of it before Sunday? Again, he's a guy I think we could use, but if Porter won't play him anyway....then there is no loss.
Now, if the Crew thought he may be positive, and that's why he didn't make the bench, then it IS a loss. Under this theory, Alashe would seem to be a candidate for #9, as I was surprised to see him not on the bench either. Any COVID test that misses the XI is a bullet dodged.
No fans this weekend, but it would be nice if we could fill the stadium with Bruce Arena butter sculptures. Just so he was sure he was in Columbus. I know he loves it here.
Grrrrrr. This may belong over in the Politics sub, but according to Ohio's COVID website, there have been a grand total of NINE!!! COVID deaths in Franklin County over the entire month of November. Let us back in, damnit!
Oh, and for those who are wondering, there were 42 deaths in September in Franklin when I was in Mapfre with my two-year-old son.
No practice today. 1 player positive from earlier in the week. Tuesday tests negative. On the Crew site. So good news there.
It's douchetastic. Let's be honest. If you look at the gif in and of itself without Arena in it and just a nameless coach one would be mildly amused, but certainly think that the celebrating douche is acting douchey. It's Arena's performance here that takes the gif/video to a whole new level. First because, it's a classic Bruce Arena reaction. The hands up. The shrug and the shake of the head. The look on his face where you can tell he still knows that he thinks he's better than everyone. Second, because love him or hate him, there isn't a single soccer fan in America that has not at some point in his life wanted to throw fists in the air and scream, "******** off" at Bruce Arena. In that moment many lived vicariously through Caleb Porter no matter how douchey he is.
