So, an opportunity to see our Earthquakes (or what's left of them) play, in less than two weeks! Who's going? Anyone know anything about the opponents "Shanghai Shenhua SVS SMEG Football Club from China" other than that they have a rather amusing name if you are a Red Dwarf fan? "Shanghai Shenhua won the China FA Cup in 1998 and was the Jia A champion in 1995, and finished runner-up in the Jia A in 1996-1998, 2000, and 2001." Predicted starting lineup? does anyone know how much tickets for this are gonna be? i might go check this out since i live so close to usf.
Where is this place at? Is it going to be where they played the Galaxy a while back? And where can you get tickets at? I'm defenitly going... TRANSFORM MARI
Carlos: did you get that info from USF? $30 for an exhibition match, without Donovan, is outrageous. Tony
Yup. I called this morning and that's what I was told. I think it's B.S. When I went there for the Open Cup a few years back I had to stand up because there wasn't any place to sit. Parking's a pain too. Good luck
Re: Re: Earthquakes vs. Shanghai Shenhua (in SF on 2/9) Pregame Thread Is that the lineup or a Shaquille O'Neill monlogue?
Re: Re: Earthquakes vs. Shanghai Shenhua (in SF on 2/9) Pregame Thread As for the Earthquakes, expect to see everybody on the roster to play, except Donovan who'll be with the Nats in between the Argentina and Jamaica games. The stadium and setting are cool. It's very small/intimate. You'll find street parking and there is even a small public lot adjacent to the field if you get there before it fills up. You can walk down to Haight Street for pre or post game beers at the Kezar Club.
The reserved tickets are expensive because people that purchace those tickets are also entered into a raffle to be on the Quake starting lineup.
They won't get it. It's adjacent to the Richmond District, which has a big Asian (and specifically, Chinese) population but the US vs. China friendly in beatiful weather at Oak Colesseum a few years ago was very poorly attended.
Re: Re: Re: Earthquakes vs. Shanghai Shenhua (in SF on 2/9) Pregame Thread I was just kidding of course because the post that I was responding to was all about the opponent, and then finished with the "Predicted starting lineup?" question.
Re: Re: Earthquakes vs. Shanghai Shenhua (in SF on 2/9) Pregame Thread A poorly attended match by Oakland Coliseum standards would be an overflow crowd at USF. Maybe Club Quake can get us a discount...
Re: Re: Earthquakes vs. Shanghai Shenhua (in SF on 2/9) Pregame Thread Because most of Chinese fans already gave up on Chinese Men's National Team for decades. They are a group of Prama Donnas. They are not good players in a world stand but behave like one--think about how NFL/NBA bad guys? A Chinese Women's National Team will drop a very larger fans. I will find out Shenhua's roster later on.
Come for the Quakes. Stay for the setting. It's SUCH a cool place for them to play, but $30 tickets for the Quakes B team? That's stoopid. Buy the cheaper seats - you'll be RIGHT next to the field either way.
Yeah--- actually, the "reserved" seats give you just about the worst view in the park. I go to a lot of the USF games and usually just try to sit near the goal where I think the most action will be, which is usually the goal defended by USF.
Unless someone in Clement Street and in Chinatown is spreading the word about this, the game will mostly go unnoticed, and a wasted chance to get those fans to maybe hear about the Quakes. Only 20,000 estimated went to the China-USA game in 2001 so it looks like this club friendly will not be hyped much. Games against Chinese clubs: 10-30-96 Quan Xing W 3-0 11-05-96 Beiing Guoan L 0-1 Ironic I know a few people who live around that area and they don't give a ____ about it. They would see Yao Ming play instead. And it's priced way too high--I'm waiting for some kind of a discount, especially from a starving artist/student. And, sitting behind the goal line is well worth the money for this one. Now, if we can unload a "secret weapon". Cheers!
