Municipal is one of the two big clubs in Guatemala. Last year they lost to the Chicago Fire in the first round.

The Quakes host the second leg. If the Quakes advance their likely opponent is Toluca.

great info...toluca would be tough, especially away at their stadium. A rematch from 99. Lets get past these Ruiz's first.

    more coverage here

Also, there's a conflict right now with the date for the home leg. Spartan is apparently hosting Japan v Uruguay on that date, so the Quakes may end up outside of San Jose for the round of sixteen match, same as last year.

should we start a new poll to see where everyone thinks the game is going to be? Fresno or cold ass sacramento again?

Coolness. I hope the Quakes win. I think my dad claims to have played for Municipal in his day....

Apparently, it is not unknown for a site to host two soccer games on the same day, one after the other. This is sometimes known as a "doubleheader," and while it is pretty rare for this to occur in San Jose, we can hope that it does on this occasion.

School. No guy, no matter how hot he is, is worth me missing school. That's just how I am.

Besides, you ever try to speak German? If I don't go I'll be way lost! :D

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp That would definitely be a reason for me to watch the Japan vs. Uruguay game - in fact, it would be the only reason.

    &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp GO EARTHQUAKES!!! :(

How's your Spanish?? We're playing a Guatemalan side, then a Mexican side when we win.

Datruth speaks "da truth!" I've been watching quite a bit of Toluca lately and they are really hot right now. Just won a match 5-1 over UNAM Pumas this past Saturday (2/1.) They have this big forward named Cardozo who is really strong on the ball and creates some tough shots. Better put Eddie on him! (though Goos will probably get the call.)

Oh No, the Guats:eek: Seriously though, a double header with both games would be sweet, but middle of the week sucks, one game would have to start early and that means during the hight of the rush hours, cutting down on the attendance.

It'll be good to see the Quakes against some international competition. It'll be interesting to see the Guatemalan turnout. Do I smell USF again? :D

Unfortuneatley the first leg probably won't be televised! :(

Not going to be easy this time playing Municipal. The first game on March 12 is going to tell the tale how far the Quakes will go. Also, supposedly Pacific Bell Park (yes) has a game scheduled for that day. I don't know which, but it was mentioned when the stadium hosted the recent motocross (re: heaps of dirt).

USF would be too small. Spartan obviously has an international friendly scheduled but as noted could be worked around as a doubleheader. It could work provided they move the start time to 6:00 or 6:30 pm.

Another game in Sacramento would be fine, provided it's on the weekend.

Nap - you weren't there last year for FC Olimpia, were you? First, it wasn't Sacramento, it was a g-d damn cow pasture out in east jesus. It was about 40 degrees with a 20-25 mph wind, and it was about as cold as I've ever been (and I lived in Wisconsin for seven years and Idaho for six!)

PLEASE!!! Don't make us go back out there!!!!

True, plus NO BEER INSIDE THE STADIUM! I use the term stadium loosely as it was a high school soccer field with a running track separating the seats from the field. The cold was bad but the wind made it miserable.

He ain't lyin'. That sure as heck was the coldest I've ever been in California. Being with the cheering section sure helped. If I had tried to stand still for any length of time, I'd have turned into a fudgesicle.

that was just gosh darn ridiculous!! shame on the earthquakes. i know they did it out of money but i think attendance dropped this year due to so many fans trying to thaw out before summer.
