Pardon my ignorance (I know nothing about baseball....)But my program guide says "Florida Marlins at San Francisco Giants if necessary". The Marlins won last night, does this mean I get the game ?
That series is over, with the Marlins winning. So, by definition, the game which is being advertised isn't necessary. Moreso, for me overseas here, getting up at 6 a.m. on a Monday morning to watch the game live is now well worth the effort.
Earthquakes - MetroStars (Sunday, 10/5) during-game/postgame thread [R]       As of now, the score is:             0        0       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The game is on... good morning, all, from my vantage point. Lineups (from mlsnet.com): http://www.mlsnet.com/games/03/tracker.php?gamename=10052003_METSJ&version=tracker SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES Pat Onstad Chris Roner Jeff Agoos Craig Waibel Todd Dunivant Brian Mullan Ronnie Ekelund Richard Mulrooney Ramiro Corrales Dwayne De Rosario Landon Donovan Subs (from): Arturo Alvarez, Jon Conway, Troy Dayak, Rodrigo Faria, Manny Lagos, Roger Levesque, Ian Russell, Josh Saunders, Jamil Walker. NY/NJ METROSTARS Jonny Walker Chris Leitch Steve Jolley Eddie Pope Edgar Bartolomeu Ricardo Clark Eddie Gaven Tim Regan Amado Guevara Mike Magee John Wolyniec Subs (from): Joseph Addo, Jose Galvan, Paul Grafer, Andrzej Juskowiak, Craig Ziadie. Both teams coming out in 4-4-2 formations.
MetroStars go 1-0 up in the 30th minute, with Guevara scoring. Ball was turned over in the Quakes' back, with Eddie Gaven capitalising with a quick pass. Not sure who coughed up the ball for the Quakes. Guevara beats Onstad low to the far post. Separate incident, Waibel booked in the 32nd minute. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Waibel who gave away what led to the goal.
Roner booked, 43rd minute, for dissent. But after looking at it on the replay, he looked justified for his actions. Tackle was high, and he had his head held down as he tried to get up. Nice biffo, Chris. (EDIT: After seeing the replay again, Roner's tackle was high, but still, Jolley gave as good as he got.)
Two minutes added time... Quakes looking really sluggish, having trouble stringing passes together. On the ESPN broadcast, Wynalda's forecasting Yallop making some changes at halftime... we'll see.
Hafltime... SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 0 MY/NJ METROSTARS 1 Guevara 30 Stats from mlsnet.com's matchtracker (via the aforementioned link)... QUAKES: TOTAL SHOTS: 1 (Dwayne De Rosario 1); SHOTS ON GOAL: 1 (Dwayne De Rosario 1); FOULS: 7 (Brian Mullan 2, Craig Waibel 2); OFFSIDES: 1 (Dwayne De Rosario 1); CORNER KICKS: 1 (Jeff Agoos 1); SAVES: 0 METROS: TOTAL SHOTS: 2 (Amado Guevara 2); SHOTS ON GOAL: 1 (Amado Guevara 1); FOULS: 7 (Tim Regan 4); OFFSIDES: 0; CORNER KICKS: 2 (Mike Magee 2); SAVES: 1 (Jonny Walker 1)
Quakes, in all honesty, have only been dangerous for one stretch, when DeRosario forced a save from Walker in the 3rd minute. Other than that, they just seem out of sync, having trouble stringing passes together, being able to move out of the back and through the midfield... And worst of all, the Metros are taking the game to them.
51st min. -- DERosario flashes a header wide, after a great cross from Mullan. Mulrooney creating danger, too. Quakes starting to come more and more into matters, and forcing the issue here...
58th min. -- Close call, Magee tries to go far post but forces Onstad into a full-stretch save, with Onstad turning the ball 'round the post. Metros appear to be content with shutting up shop and countering.
76th min. -- Another Quakes sub, Faria makes his San Jose debut, coming on for Ekelund. Fresh legs and an injection of speed needed. 77th min. -- Donovan booked for a professional foul on Guevara.
Quakes applying all the pressure now, and wouldn't be surprised to see them carve out an equaliser. 84th min. -- Ziadie on, Magee off for the Metros.
What is it with their games being televised on ESPN2 and the Quakes not playing well? DeRo and LD haven't done anything today and they fell behind early. Just don't televise their games and I bet the Quakes will play well.
88th min. -- Unreal save by Onstad. Kick save while diving the other way... breaking up a two-on-none and conceding a corner... 89th min. -- 2-0, Metros, Jolley scores at the end of the ensuing Guevara corner, layed on by Pope. It's all over now...
