Not sure if it’s the final logos of each team or not. Seattle were a pretty important team as they made two different Soccer Bowls...
I'm not sure if this is true for every team there, but those are indeed the NASL Earthquakes' very first and very last logos, the latter of which not even including the words "San Jose" in it be because tbe team was renamed the Golden Bay Earthquakes for the league's final two seasons (1983-1984). After the original NASL folded, Peter Bridgwater thankfully changed the team's name back to "San Jose Earthquakes". GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Bored from being in my home office all day today, I decided to go through my parents filing cabinet. My dad passed away on 2013 and probably haven't looked into the files for 4-5 years after I settled the estate. So, where am I going with this. I find a folder with my report cards from elementary school in Cupertino. Stuck in the folder I find a Quakes renewal for our season tickets for the 77' season! A 14 game Family Plan (2 adults/ 2 kids) was $140 dollars. Star players like Jonnie Moore, Paul Child, Ilija Mitic, and Mike Hewitt!
I remember their office on Gateway Place. Saw defender Mike Hunter there complaining about not getting his paycheck. He told me a few years ago he was always looking at his paychecks as American players were always getting shortchanged by their clubs.
I grew up in the Seattle area during the NASL days, so, naturally I was a Sounder fan at the time. A few years after the league folded I worked for a plumbing company for a short time. When out a call one day I got talking to the homeowner and the subject turned to soccer. When I mentioned I had been a big fan of the Sounder he said said so had his daughter, and that she had left behind many boxes of Sounder memorabilia when she had moved away a couple years before, and said I was welcome to take it all if I wanted it. I pondered the offer for a minute, and then reluctantly declined, since it sounded like he really didn't have the daughter's blessing to get rid of it. I still wonder to this day what those boxes may have contained!
Yeah, I have a pendant and PW seat cover from the NASL days, but that is it. Used to have a ton of balls and some other stuff, but I was young and didn't think much about it.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of former Quakes defender John Rowlands. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest In Peace, John. pic.twitter.com/PptsxEGexe— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) April 15, 2020
Here's one for you Falvo. LA Aztecs 7-1 over the Sounders. 2 goals 3 assists by Johann Cruyff 3 goals for Chris Dangerfield.
Remembering Quakes defender John Rowlands. RIP John! I'll never forget a game in 1979 between the Quakes and the Philadelphia Fury how John Rowlands, a former boxer in Liverpool, decked Frank Worthington with a right cross and gave him a bloody nose. Both players left the field with a police escort.
Never forgave Trevor Francis for scoring 5 goals in the Detroit Express 10-0 victory over my San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, July 12, 1978....
