I was hoping someone can verify a couple of things , I remember as a kid listening to the games with Hal Ramey on KXRX? and also for time the quakes were on KPEN which only provided live updates every fifteen minutes for road games. Wasn't sure if these were the correct station call letters thanks.
I too remember listening to the Quakes road games and really enjoyed Ramey, but for the life of me I can't remember the call letters of the station.
i definitely remember him calling games for KXRX, but it could've been a different station at another point. shorty espinosa did the call in spanish for years, but i'm not remembering the station.
The Quakes were mostly on KXRX, but did have some time on KLIV (those two stations had the same owner). They were on KCBS for one season with Hal Ramey calling the games. Getting on KCBS was a big deal.
Thanks for keeping this thread going BabyTiger! The thing I remember are all of the games in the early '80's that were broadcast by the then "Gill Cable". One of those involved in the broadcasts was Pat Hughes (Shown below with Harry Caray). Hughes is the radio voice of the Chicago Cubs and has been for a long time now. Hughes might have been in college at SJSU during this time and I seem to remember him as a sideline reporter with Bob Murphy in the booth? (Hughes is also an alum of Branham High, as is yours truly! ) If anyone has any connections to the old "Gill Cable" broadcasts, there are a lot of old players that would be forever indebtited!
The very first radio voice of the San Jose Earthquakes (1974) was a young Jon Miller who went on the a stellar career in the broadcast booth with the Baltimore Orioles, ESPN Radio, and now with the Giants.

It's easy to see how dark it was in Spartan Stadium in '74-'75. Any photo taken at night in those days was with a bright flash on the camera and only the subject of the shot can be seen. In this case, it looks like Ivanow is alone on the field....not another player to be seen. The ball is coming out of the darkness, no wonder that he did not make the save...
