I just got word from the Earthquakes that while Saturday's match will not be on t.v., it will be broadcast live on 1430 AM at 4:30 p.m. Apprently John Shrader will be doing the play-by-play. They said there is no t.v. beacause the t.v. stations would not bump their pre-scheduled programming--including some football game and an A's game or some s***. At least we can hear it on radio.
Afraid not. That signal from Santa Clara isn't going to reach up here to the East Bay. I checked both of those freqs and it's just noise.
I find it laughable that the Quakes have the Radio Broadcast plastered all over the web-site like it's some big deal.....it's a half-assed radio station broadcasting the most important match of the season in place of a television broadcast that never was......who dropped the ball on this??? It's been a good assumption that the Quakes were gonna make the playoffs for quite a while now and the Quakes F'd this up good. Honestly, someones not doing their job. Then they flaunt this radio crap like it's a pacifier. Don't fall for it, someone has to answer for this.
I agree! This is shocking. At least, it should be shown tape delayed... Unfortunately, this may be a good (bad?) barometer of where the league is as far as media relations.
True that we've known that we were playoff bound, but until 9/14 we didn't know for sure exactly when the match could be played (we knew we had choices, but where the all-powerful TV biz is concerned, you'd better be sure before you make your media buy...). Honestly, you'd think this TV thing was as easy as JM running up to the Fox Sports Net studios breathlessly waving a wad of cash and screaming "CLEAR THE AIR! CLEAR THE AIR! WE'VE GOT AN ALL-IMPORTANT PLAYOFF MATCH THAT WE'VE GOT TO GET ON!!!" All the more reason that MLS must conclude its season before the schedule of life crowds us out. KNOW YOUR ROLE!
Is this a barometer of where the league stands or how badly the Quakes management drops the ball? Remember, Columbus got to see game #1 live... Doesn't sound like a "leage / media relations" thing to me.
Columbus got to see game #1 live because it was on a Wednesday night, unimpeded by the barrage of college football. Further proof that MLS needs to contract the season, not teams.
Hmm. Good point on the Wed night thing. But is KICU showing football all day Saturday? Are they showing any foolball on Saturday? (They could be, I'm asking, note telling.) It seems to me, with 2 TV "partners", and the knowledge for weeks that the Quakes were going to be in the playoffs, that someone from the Quakes should have said "Hey, how about we put this game on TV?" A little Bruce Springsteen for you: "57 channels and nothin' on".
Re: Re: Earthquakes game vs. Crew on Radio! 1430 AM KICU is showing the A's, which has been on their schedule for months. KICU is the secondary TV partner -- the Quakes would rather put the games on Fox Sports Bay Area is it goes to more people and places than KICU (ask the folks who live in Stockton or Sacramento which channel they would prefer Quakes games to be on). FSBA has college football all day. Or maybe a Giants game too. Whatever, it's been on their schedule for months. The schedule wasn't announced until last Sunday. The Quakes only knew they would have home field advantage for a week before that, and the away game might have been at a different time based on who they were playing (e.g. if they were playing Chicago, the game would be on Sunday instead of Saturday, and if they were playing Colorado, it would be at 6:30 local time instead of 4:30). I'm pretty sure that you can't go to your TV partners with less than two weeks' notice and say "hey, can you block off a six hour block on Saturday and Sunday so we can show our away playoff game, we'll get back to you when we know when it is". I'm pretty sure that the Quakes organization is just as upset about this as we are. I'm pretty sure they did everything they could to get the game on TV. They did well for us this year, they got all of the regular season away games on TV, despite not having a front office to work on that for most of the offseason -- some other teams in this league couldn't even arrange that. Can we give them a break on this one?
DishTV is now showing it on their channel guide. It wasn't there about four hours ago, but now they have it for 4:30 p.m. PDT, ch 463, which is one of the Shootout Package channels.
Ummm....WHAT??? You mean the Quakes game? Are you sure about this?!!! Can we get a viewing party together if this is the case? If it's gonna be on TV then my interest may resurface.
