Glad to see the new initiative about referee standard improvement. The standards of refereeing in Hong Kong and China are so bad it is unbelievable.

The Chinese referee forbade a goalkeeper change (Yang Zhi was injured after two saves) during the penalty shoot-out in the recent Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup when Guangdong team still had one substitution available to them... The Hong Kong team laughed inside because they knew the referee made a blunder.

If Australia joins EAFF, then we will have to resolve how the EAFF championship is organized.

One member in Hong Kong's goal3 forum made a good suggestion. Australia, China, S. Korea, Japan, N. Korea all play in the final tournament, while Hong Kong, Macau, Chinese Taipei, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and Mongolia compete in the preliminary tournament for the right to join them.

The final will be of two groups with three teams each, the top 2 of each group will progress to the semi-finals and the winners of the semi-finals play in the final to determine the tournament winner.

Mongolia still left out in the cold, has anyone ever found of why they seem to be serving some sort of EAFF suspension?

And was it Palau who wanted to join (?) but never heard anything since?

I don't think Australia has asked to be a member of EAFF, but just to play EAFF Championships for senior men and women. Doesn't appear to be any firm commitment from FFA to be an everyday part of EAFF.

You mean they want to remain a member of ASEAN but play in EAFF tournaments? That would be strange.

They aren't a member of ASEAN either.

They don't want to be members as they would then have to send there senior team to the AFF Championship.

They play youth competitions as guests, but so do South Korea and China.

Australia are trying to work it the other way round with EAFF - play senior competition, which is fine for me, but not wanting to help at the youth side or administration side of things.

FFA can get f**ked if they only want to take with no intention of giving. They should be content with getting into AFC when it is geographically illogical, let alone trying a 2nd time and going up to fricken EAFF.

I agree. They must give as well as take. My feeling is if they want to play in EAFF then they must become a fully paid-up member.

    Exactly.

What FFA must understand is that EAFF isn't just a turn up and play football as and when you wish organisation but you join up and be part of it.

Sometimes you have to put up with the boring circumstance of NMI or Mongolia for example but to be in EAFF and any other regional body you should be a paid up member and toe the line.

Australia shouldn't play in my opinion unless they are members, and the draw has already been done. Why should they be pushed into the final stage ahead of anyone else? Become a member and start at the bottom.

I expect they will be put in the final stages and turn up with an A-League squad. Benefits Australia, doesn't benefit anyone else.

Now, good on Australia for gettign involved and laying down their cards. Seem's EAFF are happy to roll over. An embarressment though if Australia won the EAFF Championship but weren't actually members though! Might as well fold EAFF now as they seem to want to be big players now, but should be sticking to the region.

EAFF does more in providing football to age related groups than you could ever think if there wasn't an EAFF, but lets not outgrow it. Stick to what makes EAFF works, and thats working with EAFF member nations foremost.
