I appreciate your initiative, Americano. Maybe now other shy lurker fans of Vitoria will decide to sign in to share their happiness and frustrations with you. Let us mods know if trmbrasil decides to troll on this thread. ;)

    Vitória-Flamengo (R)

Vitória crushed the rubro-negro do Flamengo 5-1 at Barradão today, May 9th. The victory moves them into 2nd place with ten points and a +10 on goal difference. Goals for Vitória came from Obina, Edilson(2), Xavier, and Maestri. Obina also drew the penalty that led to Edilson's first goal. Flamengo's goal came from Negreiros in the 2nd half when the score was already 4-0.

Edilson's two goals give him six for the year. He is currently this years artilheiro along with Dudu (Cruzeiro) and Alex Dias(Goiás). So much for Edilson getting fat off of churrasco on his return home...

Next up corinthians 12/5 Copa do Brasil, Quarter finals 1st leg

Qual é o unico time nordestino no Brasileirão?

I didn't see the game. I followed it on the net. He came into the game late and scored in the 89th minute. It was his first game back after recovering from surgery. He may, however, get the start in this wednesday's Copa do Brasil game against Corinthians because Obina will be serving a suspension. It's good to have him back and healthy.

    RUBRO-NEGRO EMBARCA NESTA QUARTA

Corinthians x Vitória -Copa do Brasil(R)

For the 3rd time this year Vitória lost the 1st leg of a Copa do Brasil game. This time 1 x 0 to Corinthians. Each loss was on the road. Vitória will look to win by 2 goals next Wednesday, thus avoiding the chance of the match going to penalties.

    Corinthians supera Vitória no Pacaembu

Here is an overdue recap of what's happened with Vitória over the last week or so. Last sunday, May 16th, Vitória lost 1x0 to Fluminense at Maracanã. And yesterday, they beat Corinthians 2x0 at Barradão to advance to the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil.

Vitória will play Flamengo next in the semifinals. Vitória and Flamengo have met once already this year. A 5x1 victory for the baianos. I don't expect this type of dominance again. Flamengo will certainly be up for this fight.

Next up in the Brasileirão, this Sunday, Criciúma will play host to Vitória. In their last match Criciúma destroyed Goiás 7x2 and are 3rd in the standings. Throughout this years Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Baiano, and the early goings of Brasileirão Vitória has dominated at home and has been very average on the raod. Will they turn things around on the road this weekend?

On a final, sad note, Edílson's brother was killed Monday in an auto accident. Thoughts go out to him and his family.

Vitória will have one more obstacle to get to their first final of the Copa do Brasil. The team was punished, wednesday night, by the Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) and will have to play their 2 semifinal matches outside of Salvador.

The director of the Leão is going to appeal the decision. If not able to change the sentence the club will decide where to play their "home" game. Possible locations are Aracaju, Feira de Santana, and Cruz das Almas(?).

The tribunal took away the game from Vitória because of an incident during their game against Internacional. During the game a water bottle, with what appeared to be urine, was thrown towards one of Internacional's players. Along with the loss of a home game, the club was also fined 50 thousand Reais.

Talk about a royal pisser of a predicament... Sorry, pun intended!

But seriously, does crap like that truly deserve such a penalty? Did a Vitória player (or other team-associated member) throw the bottle? If not, then why hold Vitória as a team responsible? I am assuming it was some unnameable torcedor who threw it... The few matches that I have seen Vitória play indicate to me that they play with some degree of honor and integrity, which, I admit, does not immediately let them off the hook should they prove to be truly "responsible" for this action. Maybe I, being an American, am just confused by the whole judicial process in futebol...

In order to rest up for next Wednesday's Copa do Brasil game técnico Agnaldo Liz will not bring the following players for the game against Criciúma: Juninho, Adailton, Xavier, Cléber, Magnum, Obina and Edilson. This constitutes practically the entire starting lineup and all of their goals.

There are conflicting reports concerning the 1st leg of the Copa do Brasil between Vitória and Flamengo(26/05). One is saying that the game will be played in Aracaju, another says that it will be in Maceió, and a final report says that the game will be held at Barradão.

And, no, I don't think the punishment by CBF was justified. On the other hand, I'm not willing to throw up my arms and yell corruption. I just want that Copa Libertadores spot. The best team doesn't always win, which will be the case if they don't beat Flamengo and (?).

fordfjord, you don't have to be an American to be confused by the CBF. I think they even confuse themselves sometimes(most of the time?).

Vitória lost 0x2 at Criciúma Sunday to fall to 11th in the standings. Vitória was playing with their second team, in order to rest the starters for this weeks Copa do Brasil 1st leg. The problem, however, is that the game is being moved to June 2nd.

Darn, did I just hear they moved it even further, to the 9th and the 12th (home and away)? Sorry, the commentator on Jornal Nacional was speaking a little too fast for me to understand...

Well, as you see they moved the games dates, once again. And the location for the home match of Vitória is yet to be determined. Oh, the confusion!

    E.C. Vitória x Flamengo 1st leg(R)

Vitória lost in the first leg of the semi-finals in the Copa do Brasil 0x1 to Flamengo. The game was at Barradão in Salvador. With this loss, they need to win by two goals in Maracanã to secure a spot in the finals. Earlier in the season Vitória beat Flameno 5x1 at home. The match saw the return of Vampeta. His return, by all accounts, was poor. Vitória returns to action this weekend in the Brasileirão at home against Santos. Vitória currently is in 10th place in the table, but only 2 points behind the leader Criciúma. Santos sits at 20th.

Vitória falls 4-2 to Paysandu today. This is starting to get frustrating. I wish that they'd just play with some consistency. Well, this is what I get for getting my hopes up.

Gols:Balão, aos 3min, Alonso, aos 13min, Leonardo, aos 21min, Vinícius, aos 44min do primeiro tempo, Pedro Rodrigues, aos 3min, Leonardo, aos 5min, do segundo tempo

Keep the faith... Paysandu was in an even worse situation and now we are beginning to come out of the hole. Just don't lose faith.

Sorry that I've been away for so long and couldn't be around to rub some salt in the wounds of Vitoria's shattered expectations. I do, however, wish they had advanced to the final of the Copa do Brasil as I don't like 'mengo all that much and wanted to see NE football do well. After their flirtation with the idea of their first ever national championship of any kind, they have rejoined their long journey to the middle. Nevertheless, I'm due to win a caixa de cerveja when Vitoria doesn't finish in the top 10 of the Brasileiro (and another caixa when Bahia returns to 1st this year...said, knocking on wood).

To avoid being a total troll for Mig's sake...A e O, do you think Edilson can be the artilheiro of the Brasileiro, or is he toast after his recent stumbles?

Your trolling is, actually, welcomed. It keeps me from talking to myself. Well, Oswaldo de Oliveira, is the new coach and in his first game they tied Goiás 0x0 in an uninspired match.
Vitória is in 12th at the moment and only 5 points off first. So, I wouldn't be counting on receiving that caixa de cerveja just yet. How many teams get promoted from second division? Is there a playoff or do they just use the final standings?
I haven't, and won't, be seeing any games this year so it's hard for me to comment on Edilson. I know, however, that several of his goals have been on penalties. I don't expect him to be artilheiro at the end of the year. That's because I'm hoping that Obina will regain his form from earlier in the year and take some of the responsibility off of Edilson's shoulders. Maestri should also be able to contribute on his return from Copa America.

Brasileiros colocam central David Luiz no Benfica

    [ 2007/01/29 | 22:07 ]

Vitoria was in Serie C and doubt many people on this forum (if any at all) really saw him play. From what I heard, he is a lot better than the U-20 zagueiros we took to Paraguay and he probably should have been called up to the team..
