Lost in Glenn's scoop of the Moreno trade is the information that Dyron Daal is on trial with the Dynamo. Not a whole lot about him out there...here's his Wiki entry which is really light on information. Coming from the Ajax youth system is never bad. Other than that, being 23 and 6'4" (!) is intriguing as well. Curious as to how a Dutch center forward playing in Aberdeen and Dundee comes to the attention of the Dynamo. I'm guessing Spencer but who knows. Any Dutch voetbal fans out there know anything about this guy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyron_Daal
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? Dyron Daal? Well, I did manage to find a little something on our new add. Check it out for yourself. Soccer Base [dot] com : Dyron Daal It's not a whole bunch of info, but it a little bit of light goes a long way. Updated Link: A wrap up of his previous match Dyron Daal
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? He sounds like a world of potential, and Ajax is a well-coached team. If he does sign with Dynamo, I look forward to seeing what he can do.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? My guess would be the Aberdeen connection. Dom and Spence keep up with their home ties, It also doesn't hurt to bring a little Euro-Style play into our game. Now Dalglish has a play mate.... He is here on trial for a short while. My guess is he will probably end up in NYRB or Toronto FC since those two clubs are in a world of hurt right now.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? Sounds like we're auditioning for a back-up target man who may be able to fill in for Ching when he's called up this summer (or nursing an injury).
Re: Dalglish vs Moreno Burried in Glenn's article is this little gem: "On trial with the Dynamo is Dyron Daal a 6′4 center forward who was on loan at Dundee United in Scotland from Aberdeen. Daal was part of the Ajax system in Holland ". Looks like we'll be bolstering our offense and midfield. Goodbye Moreno, thank you for helping us win the Cup. You will always be a part of our history. Good luck in Columbus and we'll see you around here soon.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? i am really digging these moves. last year during the call ups i got tired of watching cerritos and moreno make up our offense. it was stagnant at best. i must say, these bench building moves are something that we might not appreciate until the end of the year. Who is making these moves? Educate me on MLS trades. Is this OL? Is this Dom? Is this a general manager (do we even have one?)?
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? It's OL and Dom. They make all the decisions. I kind of like all this moving around. Getting a guy from a historically well-coached team (Ajax) to pair up with Wondo in the reserves and maybe take Ching's spot this summer is great. The only thing I worry is if Dom doesn't have faith in Wondo?
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? I feel bad for Wondo and Dom. You watch a guy in the reserves and he kiicks butt, but you know that is the reserves. So you bring him up and he doesn't score for three games so you get nervous. This is a tough situation for both. Makes me glad I sit and stand in the stands rather than on that bench.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? I'd just add that Wondo will still probably get his chances, especially this summer. It sounds like the big Dutch guy would play a very different role, so we could even seem them paired up in league games when the call ups (and maybe injuries) hit this summer. In addition to OL and Dom, I also suspect that John Spencer has a lot to say about these personnel moves. OL isn't a life-long soccer guy - he's the first the say so and doesn't pretend otherwise - so Dom will have a lot more influence on personnel moves than some other coaches around the league.
Re: Trade: Moreno to Crew for Ngwenya This is Daal, who appears to be a tall skinny drink of water in the manner of Khano Whatshisname in New England, not the holding player ogre a la Conor Casey I expected when I heard 6'4" forward from Scotland. http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/16092006...ebrates-scoring-2nd-goal-against-falkirk.html BBC says he's coming to the States, but gets no more specific. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/aberdeen/6636525.stm But this Dundee fans' site says he's headed back to Dundee. http://www.dundee.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=64839 So, who knows? The guy played for free last year, so one thinks he might want to play for our cash if it comes to that.
Re: Trade: Moreno to Crew for Ngwenya It's a Texanism. http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2007/01/the_ceremony_wa.html
Re: Trade: Moreno to Crew for Ngwenya Not just a Texanism. It is used in the Midwest where I'm from. Slightly different meanings to the phrase depending on the context.
Re: Trade: Moreno to Crew for Ngwenya Daal is Dutch. He has been playing in Scotland but he is a product of Ajax in the Netherlands.
Re: Trade: Moreno to Crew for Ngwenya It can be used both ways. I think I've heard it used more often to describe a particular type of woman. It also has a usage that just means "very tall".
Re: Trade: Moreno to Crew for Ngwenya Well, it will be cool to have a Dutch player then He might play with a lot of heart wearing the Orange, he'll think he's playing for his NT. And he is very tall. good target in the box
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? I found these infos: http://www.aberdeen.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=64964 Jimmy Calderwood has revealed why he will not be retaining the services of Dutchman Dyron Daal and it`s a combination of finances as well as Jimmy feeling that the player is still not quite at the level he requires for a first team player. Dyron was brought to Pittodrie from Utrecht as an amateur player which meant that he was paid only expenses and despite scoring two goals in seven games for Aberdeen as well as five goals in seven for Dundee during his loan period there, Jimmy is unwilling to offer him a professional contract which he would be forced to do since Dyron is now ineligible for amateur status anymore. Jimmy had offered Dyron another six months as an amateur player but the 23 year old cannot accept another offer of that type and will now pursue interest in him from the American MLS although several Scottish clubs, including Dundee, are said to be interested. 'I thought Dyron still had another six months as an amateur player, which is not the case. 'The fact he is now eligible to turn professional again changes the finances which would be involved in keeping him here. 'We would have had to pay more than the expenses he got when he was here as an amateur and we were not willing to do it.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? Hmm. The Scottish Premier League and 1st Division aren't exactly chopped liver. Who knows... this guy might just have the scoring touch.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? So now schwabe will have to wear orange AND root for a Dutchman? We may see his head explode at some point in a game.
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? He's tall, he's from Holland and his name looks a lot like Dynamo, so what's not to like
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? lol , dutch or english players are ok for me , I just don't like the national teams of Holland and England ( the english re- invented the wheel !!)
Re: Who the hell is Dyron Daal? Little more info on Daal. http://www.thedees.co.uk/news_story.asp?id=1946
