Dynamo USL Pro team in McAllen, TX

I wonder what the market is like for that area. It seems untapped, as far as pro sports are concerned. They may be able to make it work.

 

There is already a footprint for our brand/crest down in South Texas thanks to the efforts of Clarkson and our Academy having scouted that area for years now. This is a no brainer and should have been done a while back.

It would be worthwile to have teams in Nac-Town, Baton Rouge, McAllen and Tyler, weither we own them all or not but the talent to be cultivated is legitimate. Dash and Dynamo!

That would be a very nice and certain rivalry!! Having most of my family from both sides from McAllen and me visiting them often means RGVDynamo or DynamoRGV or Dynamo II will get some luv when I'm down there!!

 

If they have to bus for a lot of travel in USL Pro, that alone will be hellacious from down there. I assume that if more MLS teams go the USL route that it will have to be more of a flying league for the West and South teams.

It's funny, but 'ol whitey Westside has spent some time in the Valley and I actually don't hate it. Laredo is different.

Seems too far for a real easy shuttle for players (like Austin or Corpus) but you can fly them up quick enough.

 

I've tried to get a quick tally on the Vipers attendance and I can only find the playoff game attaendance (close to 4500 per game). Since I believe soccer is more popular in the area maybe they can average 2.5k to 3k people per game or more?

 

OK, just found a team average of just under 4700 per game with the Vipers. Keep in mind they have been to the playoffs the last couple of seasons and have reached the finals 3 out of the last 4 seasons and have won it twice (I was at the game when they won it the first time). Since this Dynamo RGV team will be startin fresh, I think 2700 to 3000 is doable to start and hopes to get the full 5000 in the near future with good FO work.

 

When I was with our city's old Houston Hurricanes FC we got two ERAC (Enterprise Rent-A-Car) s15 passenger vans and that was how we travelled around Texas, Oklahoma and Lousiana for league or Cup games. We flew to places like Milwaukee and the like.
The cost for plane travel is actually one of the few costs that is not as big as an issue as one would think when involving a semi-pro/minor league team in our nation. Season long deals were made with airlines and if our Dynamo FO do something similar, our McAllen Dynamo should be able to fly to distances that are legitimate lenghts and thus reserve the van option for closer opponents just like we did in the late 90's and early 2000's.

 

This would do well there. There was a semi pro team there somewhat recently. Bravos FC or something. They had a SG their first year when they played in Hidalgo County, but then they moved to Brownsville and attendance plummeted. That was PDL I think.

I believe the Vipers do really well in general. They are one of the best drawing teams in the NBA. Here is a boxscore from a Wednesday game that got over 4K http://www.nba.com/dleague/games/20140312/MNERGV/gameinfo.html and most weekend games get over 5k.

I would disagree that soccer is clearly more popular though. I think the thought that "Mexican-American = Soccer Fan" is a gross over-generalization. The RGV is football first. When there was an Arena2 team, those games all sold out. I would say basketball is 2nd as the Spurs are pretty huge down there.

With that said, I think pro soccer would do really well.

It would be better if someone currently from the area could speak up. I know that @bobeink used to go to the Bravo FC games. I have not seen him on big soccer for a long time though.

I may be jaded, but it sounds to me the Dynamo only really want to do it if they can make on it

Perhaps then we, us uneducated fans and booze hound supporters can come up with a way to make money for Chris to cover the costs of cultivating this talent.
Off the top of my head we could orgainze a Dynamo Girls car wash. We could have a Fan n Supporters Fight Night with HPD officiated by Oscar de la Hoya. We could do a Fan and Supporters telethon on CSN showing old Dynamo games and clips of fans in action (tailgating) with unedited sports movies one weekend!
We could have a "All In" Texans, Astros, Rockets and Dynamo fans and supporters cook off, what set of fans has the best ribs, brisket, chicken.
Heck, us fans and supporters could really kickstart a fund raising so that RGV Dynamo gets the proper funding they would deserve to start a new team!

 

They have the proper funding. Uncle Phil has more money then...like, anyone. Between AEG, Brenner and the Pantyhose guy....money isn't an issue.

It's like NHL/AHL relationship: so long as they help produce trophies and don't cost too much on the bottom line, it's all good.

 

F that. If Uncle Phil can afford to take the loss in LA, he can afford to take the loss in Houston. It can't be worth it for them, but not worth it for us. Sell the team if there is an issue. This is the obvious next step in MLS as Houston has shown. I think San Antonio is covered, but there is no reason not to consider Austin, Corpus Christi, Beaumont, and Louisiana.

Houston youth teams aren't developing the same talent as LA youth. They haven't ever. As a result, they need to expand the footprint to compete.

@ChrisCanetti how do I cancel my @HoustonDynamo season ticket renewal? I mean really, pull out two World Cup players (one our captain) and a forward, when we need every point possible? Unbelievable! Just so you know, us fans do not consider eking into the playoffs every year an accomplishment. So tell @g_brener @OscarDeLaHoya and @AEGworldwide that we're tired of being second fiddle to LA and to take this shit seriously.
