In the Champions League, it was a week of extremes with PSV's fantastic win and Ajax's painful defeat, but the overall coefficient conclusion is that the Netherlands as a whole has made a nice move compared to the competition.
For the time being, that competition only consists of Belgium and Portugal. At the moment they are close opponents of the Netherlands and in the future even prey for the Eredivisie delegation.
Belgium in particular has created a big gap with the Netherlands on next season's coefficient list and that is why it is wonderful that we have caught up with the Belgians (by far) through the victories of PSV, Go Ahead Eagles, AZ and Feyenoord.
Only RC Genk took a point against Real Betis, so that the Belgian delegation only scored 0.200 points for the average. The Netherlands divides the total score by more clubs, but ends up with an average of 1,333.
Portugal did see teams win. Sporting Portugal and Sporting Braga were successful. Because FC Porto, among others, went down, Portugal was stuck at a plus of 0.800 coefficient points. It ensures that the current difference between number six the Netherlands and number seven Portugal is more than 3,000 points.

Well, Go Ahead Eagles are certainly punching above their weight. Same can't be said for the other Dutch clubs.

Portugal scored 2 points more than we did, partly blame on Feyenoord for that stupid, unnecesary loss to Braga.

  4. Being "minnows", they aimed at the opponents balls...and hit those:laugh:

Direct confrontation with Portugal, unfortunately with a disfunctional FC Utrecht vs a well coached Porto.

Coefficients: status quo between the Netherlands and Portugal after late equalizer.
The European week seemed to start dramatically for the Netherlands, but Ricardo Pepi saved a point for PSV in Greece in extremis. As a result, the Eredivisie keeps pace with Portugal and is slightly ahead of Belgium. PSV came in the first half at a disadvantage due to a goal from a Portuguese. Gelson Martins blasted the 1-0 hard against the ropes. Through a late goal from substitute Pepi, the Eindhoven team saved a point at Olympiakos.

Sporting held Juventus to 1-1 and so Portugal can also add 0.2 points.
Good news came from Madrid. Atlético defeated Union Saint-Gilloise and therefore the Belgian league remains dry for the time being this week. The Eredivisie's lead over the Liga Portugal is currently still 3,400 points. The Belgian Pro League is a bit further behind.

Missed chance for a double whammy result.

This was the best result, given clubs from our two direct competing countries battled each other.

  8. This midweek, the Netherlands ended up with a coefficient score of 0.33, the result of PSV's draws against Olympiakos Piraeus and FC Utrecht against FC Porto. It wasn't the week of the sub-toppers anyway. Portugal added its coefficient with 0.4 and Belgium with 0.6. The Jupiler Pro League dealt a blow to the Primeira Liga by the Europa League victory of RC Genk at Sporting Braga.
