Does anyony know whether Fox Sports World is going to be carrying Dutch Soccer this year? I keep looking for it with the satellite's search feature but come up with zero.
Actually, FSW lost its 2002/2003 Dutch soccer contract to......would you believe it....ESPN. ESPN now holds the right to broadcast Dutch footie in North America, for the time being. They have featured matches on their international arm, ESPN International. As the name suggests, "for international audiences only". Apparently ESPN and its parent company, ABC, has decided that not one minute of Dutch football is worth viewing, for American audiences. Because we're only interested in NCAA sports, fishing, cheerleading, NHL and all others.... ...except Dutch football.
Yup, On ESPN2 they sometimes show fishing - how fcuking pathetic. Not even fishing as in competition, but as in recreation. They show a bunch of old weasels on a small boat, on a lake, catching a prize fish, gooing(and oohs and aahs) at their victory catch, then throwing it back in the lake. Then there's monster trucks, and billiards and anything as stupid as you & I can imagine.
We even got Serie A too on FSW, they would show at least 15 Ajax matches and the same amount of Juve games, I like La Liga, but Celta Vigo every weekend is not the same as Ajax,Feynoord,PSV,Juve,Milan,Nazio or Inter.
I dont think so ESPN is so pathetic with what they show, they obivously have the rights to broadcast CL games and they show one live on tues and then on wed at the time they would be showing live ones in the US they show us NFL films presents garbage
The crappy thing is, we get to see a seemingly season-long "relelgaton battle" struggle on La Liga because apparently FSW doesn't have the first or second or possibly third choice as to the matches it may broadcast...In this instance, I'd rather see Ajax, PSV, Feynord (sp?) rather than the bottom-feeders in La Liga!
Be glad you are not the editor of a fishing show. You would have to sift through hours of footage to find the "interesting" parts. Don't forget about the Lumberjack Games.
Okay I miss my Dutch football. But the only thing more boring than fishing would be watching people sleep. "Look Vern, he's rolling over - no wait, he stopped" "Hal, that boy can snore up a hurricane. Put the band-aid on your nose boy! Big Willy can drop the z's like nobody's business" "Hal, its time to cut away to Melvin Stamper, aka "the big sleep", three time sleep champion from Dry Prong, Louisiana"
If any of you have a sattelite dish or digital cable, thats the description they give the show Fishing America when you highlite the program. lol.
AFCA, ESPN and ESPN show fishing (competitive and recreation), hunting (recreation), cheerleading competitons (wow), umm i dont know wut its called but it is strong women who dance in a gymnastic way, i think it may be called an Athletic Competion or something. ESPN2 also frequently shows TONS of world strongest man competition (dating back to 70s) and reruns them all the time. And even tho ESPN created the station ESPN Classic they still decide to show clips of the NFL from the 50's-70's all the time. They also have a show called Street Ball which is kind of like Real World only they follow around a group of amateur basketball players who tour the country and play agaisnt normal ppl but these ppl are for show and just do tons of great dribbling.
Does anyone know if they've finally given up on X-Games and Winter X-Games, which seemed to pop up every 3 months for a while, or have I just not been paying attention.
I saw Kenny Mayne at Rock n Bowl in Simsbury, I asked him if he could do his famous celebration. He smerked. Bristol's the next town over. I'm going to start a one-man protest.
yeah, when they said they were replacing it with La Liga I was thinking, "can't compete with Real Madrid, Barcelona, etc." Now that I realize they don't/can't show any of the big name clubs I'm even more dissapointed.
Yes! I feel so cheated. I don't mind watching Celtic and Rangers beat up on the SPL, but damn I want to see the skill from the Dutch league. Should we start a phone campaign?
Who would we call? FSW, to convince them to win back the broadcast rights? Or ESPN, to convince them to...well, what would we try to convince ESPN to do? They're not going to show the games on the two US networks. If only ESPN International were available on digital cable or satellite...
yes! ESPN INTERNATIONAL!! WE WANT IT, AND WE WANT IT NOW if that doesn't work, we could always resort to violence. Oh, and Bristol isn't that far from me.
So does that mean you're volunteering to spearhead the campaign? I'm happy to help. If BigSoccerites can stuff ballots, imagine doing something that will actually lead to them being able to watch more soccer... What is it they say? Oh year..."Call your cable company or satellite operator."
I'll see what I can do. It might be something we can do from the local level (threats) that will work for the nation.
