Dunno if this is allowed, but I'm pretty sure this wuldn't be a succes in the NSR politics forum.

Anyone hear about how the EU wants to ban Sinterklaas?

Maybe the EU should try and know their sh!t before talking BS like this.

Zwarte piet zo ZWART ALS ROET. In other words... the guy sweeps chimneys. geez....

    Its a fake :)

And zwarte piet acctualy is a crow, one of two,
the two helpers of Odin. thats because Sint. Klaas finds its Dutch orgins in Odin (Wodan).

Sint Klaas is what the church made of it (Sort of like Sint Patrick in Ireland), the slavetrading history of Holland helped in giving zwarte piet its current form :)

    A bit quick/short/incomplete but I have to cook :)
    Ill edit it later on

Muslim kids don't really feel much for Sinterklaas as they hardly celebrate it at home.

A lot of black kids don't have any trouble with it as far as I know. Maybe because kids whine a lot less about BS matters than certain adults do.

    (Just curious...)

How's it possible that a few moments ago Rutger's response on this thread just said..."It's a fake :)"

But now his complete text appears??

If one edits their post fast enough they can pull it off without the fact that it was editted being noted. (I'm not sure that sentence made sense).

Interesting--I must admit I don't know a lot about this. A few questions:

--Can the EU ban a Dutch cultural tradition? Seems to me it would be a matter of national sovereignty.

--For that matter, how is a cultural tradition "banned"? Representations of Sinterklaas are made illegal? Fines for celebrating it?

--Where is this quotation from? Sounds very academic in tone ("collective signifier").

    Frieslander,

I actually understand what you're saying..

...which explains why his post appeared twice.

    Who is sinterklaas.

Odin also know as Wodan, dressed in a large cloak rides the skies and seas on his fast white horse Sleipnet, a horse with 8 legs, while carrying in his hand his spear Gungnir. Odin is occompied and assited by his two black ravens Huginn and Muninn who keep him informed about the happings in the world just like zwarte piet informs Sinterklaas when you've been bad.

Odin while carrying his spear, sleipnet (Odins horse) and Huginn and Muninn flying in the background.

The church Sinterklaas comes from a bishop named Nicholas:
In the 4th centery in Myra (east roman empire), a chirstian Bishop: Nicholas with a great reputation for goodness died or was born on december the 5 or 6. He got his repuatation because apperantly he gave the family belongings to the poor people.

Sinterklaas, Zwarte piet and calimero (the Sints horse), in this picture the sint it with out his 'spear' but normaly the sint is always carrying his staff.

As you can see Odin and Sinterklaas have much in commen :) And zwarte Piet doenst(!) finds its orgin in a negro slaves.

Not much more text then in my last post, but I seem to have run out of words :p Which is apperantly a good thing since I normaly go into the smallest details and bore the hell out of the people to who'm im talking :p

Yeah Im not to sure how this goes, but I belief the dutch high court has the final vote.

    It would be imposible.

    Its a hoax, a fake :)

    Re: Who is sinterklaas.

Oh, funny. Either I'm gullible or in the current political climate, nothing is too absurd to be true--whether it comes from the right or the left.

Might be a hoax, but to be honest... it's EU quality.
