Oh, right, how could I forget--Vlaamse frites! I hate mayo, but the fries can't be beat--steaming hot and served in a paper cone. And the good places have like 15 different flavors of mayo. There was a place in Haarlem that had "samurai" mayo--loaded with wasabi--that was so good I was converted.

Also, best falafel I've had anywhere is in A-dam, where they typically deep fry it right there for you so it's totally fresh, and have a salad-bar deal with all kinds of crazy sauce and toppings you can put on the falafel. Ma'ez is the falafel equivalent of McDonald's in the city but I think the best place is this hole-in-the-wall whose name escapes me, near Dam Square, just behind the Royal Palace.

Oranje and Ajax, in that order :)

I haven't lived there since '78, but historically the Netherlands has been mostly Protestant Reformed, an off-spring of the Reformation, through John Calvin.

btw- herring is definitely an acquired taste- very greasy and salty, but very good!

Depends on how you look at it.

ATM the major religions are Protestant reformed and to the south Roman Catholic. The third major religion is Islam, mainly in the cities of course.

But apart from certain regions and a few nutcases nobody in Holland is actually religious.

Most of the religious people/nutcases moved to the USA! (See Western Michigan, and all the other little enclaves throughout the US)

Meet Frieslander: the product of those religious wackos

Well maybe they don't have whole restaurants, but a place that sells Dutch food would be interesting.

Or something like NL in New York, but I doubt we have anything like that in my area.
