It's happening kids....I'm sure the first of many. If I'm correct, this is the first time the original 5 will be together since Live Aid. http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0...rtistid=734969&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=60 but holy freaking hell, I'm going to have to take out a freaking loan to get a prime ticket. 83.50!
Nope, they'll play a short string of dates in Japan first, and possibly an LA club date the night before Costa Mesa. Weren't you the one that claimed you were tight with the band some months ago when I hooked somebody up out there?
You know you're old when middling pop bands from your teen years are staging reunion tours on county fairgrounds. I'll save my money for the inevitable Thompson Twins reunion.
I'm holding out for the "monsters of pop" reunion tour. Dexy's Midnight Runners Howard Jones Men Without Hats Big Country (whoops - dead singer) INXS (see above) Nena & Falco Tommy TuTone Rick Springfield Thomas Dolby Adam Ant Human League Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam
Sad thing is Rick Springfield was making the rounds at the fairgrounds last summer....How the 'mighty' have fallen....
Hey, Greg Kihn is a DJ in San Jose now, and he is always calling up his washed up 70s and 80s rocker buddies like Eddie Money, some guy from Cheap Trick, etc. They are always talking about how their next gig is the Modesto Asparagus Festival or the Calaveras County Fair.
I am aghast that many of the bands I listed are actually playing in some venues. And I'm sorry I forgot A Flock of Seagulls.
yes, I have a connection. No, I haven't been in contact with that connection, but I do know about a possible club date via the mailing list...but if it doesn't happen, then this is the first time stateside. Some other acts at the O.C. fair this year... -Melissa Etheridge -Crosby Stills Nash -311 -Devo/Cake -Doors 21st Century -Alanis -Bob Dylan -Alan Jackson -3 Doors Down The shows are actually at the Pacific Ampitheatre which has shows outside of the fair (according to my roomie). These just happen to fall during the fair so the price includes admission....and I was wrong...It's 90 bucks. She also said the fair is pretty spectacular for a fair....I could see that with it being Orange County.
It might be because I'm on their home turf, but Cheap Trick seems to have transcended the nostalgia circuit in the last several years. On a related note, I play a lot of eighties tunes when I do my solo acoustic gigs. Nobody really expects to hear "Mexican Radio." Ever. And "Money for Nothing" kills. Later, COZ <-- grew up in the eighties
Or as their known as now, Men Without Jobs! (yeah, stolen from the Simpsons, like most things in life)
it unfortunate but, 90 bucks sounds about right....concerts are expensive now.....especially for a 'reunion' tour...and no matter what anyone says, Duran Duran was as big as it got 20 or so years ago....I wouldn't have any interest in seeing them but, I don't think the price is out of line either. I don't even want to discuss the amount of money I shelled out for the Bruce shows this summer.
(note: i'm happier than a prize-winning pig with fresh slop and $h!t) OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! (1 for John, 1 for Simon, 1 for Nick, 1 for Roger, 1 for Andy!!!!) Section 2, Row T!!!!!! MY BEST FRIEND F'ING ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF!!!!! Not only did he use his magic high-speed internet connections to get my ticket, but IT'S MY EARLY BIRTHDAY PRESENT!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!! I light my torch and wave it for the new moon on monday...and a fire dance through the night! Then I get done meeting a photographer at The Grove and buying some yummy fruit at The Farmer's Market and BOOM!!! John Taylor is on 98.7 hosting an all-Duran 80s Lunch Hour, answering questions and stuff. Then, he played one of the new songs they've recently recorded and IT ROCKS!!! OMG, it's better than any damn thing I've recently heard on the radio. Holy crap. I wanna pull out some of my old D2 pix, toss them on my bed and roll around on them like Demi Moore did with a bunch of money in Indecent Proposal. Then last night, when I was filling out my "time off" request at the night job, Duran Duran's "The Reflex" came on while I was filling out the form for the date of the concert. Like it was a sign from the powers that be....the song that started it all with me and the boys from Birmingham and there I was...asking for the night off to see them.
I got a Duran single yesterday but didn't get around to playing it till tonight when I read this thread. It's actually really, really good. Did he play Whatever Happens? That's the single I have and it's definately a first release type song; Fairly upbeat and with a nice metaphor to what the new old school Duran is gonna face in the next year or two. I'm actually amazingly happy about this song. Let's hope the rest of the album (which I haven't recieved yet) is just as good. AFLette's review of the song: (big smile) I think they're doing a good job. I love them.
Yeah, the new song is really good, especially after a few listens. Has a big sweeping sound. Not sure if it's called "Whatever Happens" -- it might be "What Happens Tomorrow". The chorus or bridge part is pretty catchy, the "If you love me, I’ll protect you / However I can / You’ve got to believe / It’ll be alright in the end" - and then the "Would it seem lonely / If you were the only star in the night?" but I can see Simon effing the high notes up in concert..
remember when he f'd up at Live Aid? It's What Happens Tomorrow and I got the mp3 last night off of Lizard King's site.
