Hunt set to leave Rovers Shamrock Rovers have turned down a bid from Dunfermline for star striker Noel Hunt but have admitted that they are willing to allow the Waterford youngster leave should the Scottish side increase their offer. Hunt spent three days training at East End Park last week and Dunfermline decided to make an offer for his services but Rovers have turned that particular bid down. However Hunt’s departure seems to be only a matter of time after Rovers’ chairman Tony Maguire said that they would not stop him from leaving. “We are not going to stand in the lads way, he wants to go to Dunfermline and if they make an offer that we agree with then we’ll accept,” he stated. “Dunfermline have made an offer and we’ve instructed Liam Buckley to talk to Jimmy Calderwood again. Dunfermline’s offer was a very generous one but the terms were a bit short.” It has emerged that Hunt could also travel to Portsmouth after they recently sent a scout to watch him play. “Portsmouth had their chief scout over to watch him against Derry City on Monday and he did very well. He scored a great goal and they are now very interested,” concluded Maguire. ------ Hunt is too good for Dunfermiline, and is blatantly a future Irish international, he has that one thing that Crowe doesn't, pace, and lots of it. I rate this lad very very highly, and Crowe may score more goals but if I had to pick one Eircom Leaguer from my admittedly limited experience of the league to succed in the premiership it'd be Hunt. I think Portsmouth is ideal for him, he would get his game, imo, in division ones leading side who should be in the prem, which will bed him into English football easily, also he seems to suit Portsmouth style, his pace on front of Merson would be amazing, he should ahve himself established by the time Portsmouth kick off their premiership campaign, barring them blowing it big time. I don't think it could be more perfect for the lad and I really really hope he ends up at Portsmouth. What do others reckon who probably know more about the situation then I do?
Hunt signs for Dunfermiline Noel Hunt will join Dunfermline at the end of the eircom League season providing the Shamrock Rovers striker can agree personal terms with the Scottish club. Rovers have accepted Dunfermline’s improved offer of around €150,000 for the Waterford youngster, with a percentage of any future transfer fee also included in the deal. Manager Liam Buckley admitted that he is disappointed to lose Hunt but is relieved that they will at least have him until the end of the season in January. “We have more or less agreed everything but he won’t go until the end of the season. I am delighted for Noel that he will have the chance he wanted, but I am disappointed we are losing one of our better players,” he said. “Providing Noel agrees his personal terms then the deal will go through.” However Dunfermline manager Jimmy Calderwood doesn’t foresee any problems in Hunt sorting out his personal terms. “I don’t think the player’s terms and conditions will be a problem because we’ve already spoken a bit about it. We changed the deal a wee bit from our original offer, means of payment and all that stuff, and the manager’s recommendation was that the board accept it.” ------ He's too good to be stranded in Scotland, hopefully this is a stepping stone for a year or two before he moves on. He's not likely to be capped while in Scotland, so hopefully this is the first step on a long road to becoming an international.
19 as far as I know, if anything he's possibley younger, I'm not sure. I'd put him, stylewise, like a cross between Owen and Keane purley in the way he plays his game, he has pace and lots of it, is a good finisher and has good skill, he will be a future international imo because of what seperates him from alot of the other Eircom league forwards who failed abroad, he has pace to burn.
i think he went to scotland because dunfermline promised to fast track to the first team (which seems strange to me because if you're good enough you'll make it in any team). anyway, it seems that their offer was more attractive than being stuck in the reserves of a first division side
That's true, but I'd say he would have broken into the Portsmouth side and they will probably be playing prem footie next season, but you're right he'll probably get near enough right into the Dunfermiline side and who knows, maybe he'll get capped while in Scotland?
