Torn miniscus is the preliminary diagnosis. Maybe Walsh is plugged in for the time being?

I'm guessing they put in Paule for the time being. Just a guess though after seeing how many minutes he's played in different match reports. Hopefully this injury doesn't bother Dunc afterwards, I honestly think he (assuming he wins a starting d-mid role) is one of the top two or three keys to this season.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a torn miniscus an injury that will have lasting consequences -- such as water on the knee, premature arthritis, etc.

I think the worse of the two is a torn acl.

a torn meniscus can be scoped, but you are right it can lead to premature arthritis.

and zak a torn ACL is a very bad thing....going through it right now

Boy, I sympathize with you swittler; my wife had a torn ACL about 18 months ago (which was repaired by the Crew's guy BTW) and it was very painful. Fortunately, she's always been a lot tougher than me.

Now that I have a second, let me add that it matters a good deal where and how badly it's torn.

Brian West had a miniscus tear a couple years ago, for example. Not sure if there was other damage then or not.

The problem lies when it's a bad tear and needs to be cleaned out. This eliminates the pain but creates a bone-rubbing-on-bone sceanario in your knee, which can eventually lead to needing a new knee when you're older.

a torn meniscus is nothing in the grand scheme of things...hell, my out-of-shape butt tore my meniscus last summer and was out of action for only 3 weeks before i was back to playing again...

the long term effects can include premature arthritis, but it really depends how much of the meniscus they remove during the surgery. and it usually wont affect a player until his mid-30's, at least that is what my doc told me...

a few weeks off and PT'ing and he'll be okay.

It matters a great deal to the discussion just how badly torn it is.

    Yeah. Watson is the man.

And a VERY cool guy in addition to being flat-out the best at what he does.

There's what the crew are saying about the matter for the moment. I'm guessing Dunc will miss about 3 weeks... a couple of meat pies and that Kiwi will be as good as new.

I knew I saw this thread a while back... Anyway, does anyone have any updates as to how/if Dunc will make the April 5th date?

Dunc hopes to play on sunday, but it's more likely it'll probably be the 5th. Said he feels as fit as he ever has going into a season, said he really likes the new MLS ball, said he can really thump it from 30 yards out, expecting to play in the confed cup this summer for the all whites. Top class lad he is, could be one of many keys that lead us to the triple this season. Unfortunately I don't expect to see dunc play on Sunday.

Dunc has a better chance of playing on Sunday than Jeffy.
