the dumbest rule in soccer is not a rule... its a law... gravity law. Soccer would be so much cooler in zero G!! I think FIFA should abolish the gravity law

How old are you guys? the kid obviously is new to the game and is just trying to support his national team. Just explain things to him and maybe soccer would have more fans in the US.
The rule is there so that you can throw your shittiest player on the field to brake the other teams best players leg and then get to replace him. There would be less cheap shots in other sports if such a rule were implemented there too.

I have heard through PM from a very reliable source on these boards that the OP is not a kid, but actually Sunil. Notice the doc in the user name....

If this happens, then no goalkeeper would be wanting to touch the ball, leading to scores of 100-101, just like basketball!

I have always thought it would be better without the goals.

    Make it more like Billiards.

I hate the rule that allows Bradley to be a manager.

its worth noting that the red card was invented what? In the end of the 60s? 70s?

it was invented when players started resorting too much to violence to put good players from other teams out of the match.

Well the red (amd yellow) cards first were thought about following the 1966 world cup, and brought in for the 1970 world cup (but actually not compulsory in all levels of football until as late as 1982).

But that is the cards - the cautioning and sending off of players went back decades before that - the cards were just invented to make the referees actions clear to the crowd....

I think all the players should wear helmets and the coach should be able to call time-outs whenever he feels like it. How about every goal equalling 10 points, and having an on-field DJ that yells, "MAKE SOME NOISE!" when the crowd gets silent. I think we should also have commercial breaks and cheerleaders. Boy wouldn't that be great?

You've obviously never been to a USL game.

it's not difficult to see WHY they have the rule. By I totally understand the OPs frustration. I believe football would be a better game if the red card rule was changed....send off the offender, suspend him for the next game, and require the offender's team to use one of their substitutions to replace him (or play a man down if they have no subs left), but don't completely change the game when there's a faily good chance (wouldn't be surprised if it's as high as 25%) that the call was wrong. When you have one ref making judgement calls, he shouldn't have the power to make a team play a man down for 60 minutes+
