Dukies win 3-1. All the scoring took place in the first half.

Rennie rested some of his top players with UVA coming to Durham Sunday. Still, it's not a good sign that Campbell had the better of the play in the second half.

I'm sure Duke wasn't too motivated to play Campbell, but they need to shore things up in the back or else UVA won't have much trouble finding the back of the net Sunday.

i was at the duke-campbell game last night and im not sure what top players Rennie rested. Perea was out with a red card, so you cannot consider him to be a player taking a break...the only other noticeable starter missing was Ahumada in the back....duke's top two players, macintosh and cila, played all 90 minutes....please let me know what other players were rested, as i may have missed some.h

i do agree that campbell had the better of the play in the second half, and if they would have finished that breakaway in the first half, the game could have come down to the end....

i also think that campbell's goal, although it was an own goal, was just as well scored as any of duke's...the buildup started in the back, switched fields, then went forward and came across to two or three runners streaking through the box....

duke will have a tough game with UVA, but with Perea back, there attack will only be better and they will come away with the win, making themselves one of the top teams in the ACC.

    Duke

Ahumada didn't play, as you said, and I didn't know Perea was out with a red card, I just assumed Rennie was resting him because the opponent was Campbell. Andy Borman didn't play either...and I was under the impression he starts in the back.

I have to disagree with your assessment that McIntosh and Cila are Duke's best players. Cila underachieves, IMO, and while McIntosh is a nice solid player, Trevor Perea is clearly Duke's best player. Also, Trowbridge has been outstanding at GK. I also really like Ian Carey. He's a very smart player, and his positioning on the field is excellent.

Can't decide whether LuvDaBears is a disgruntled ex-coach or soccer player. Curious to find out.

Campbell's defense is needs to do somthing. They are continuously split by thru balls, and I don't think I've seen them run an offsides trap all year. Its good to hear that the attack was going well though.

Duke certainly didn't have it's best lineup out there, but it clearly was the better team against Campbell. Even without Perea and Ahumada, they were never in real jeopardy of losing the game.

Perea, Ahumada, Trowbridge and Carey have all been standouts for the Blue Devils, but you can't discount the worth of McIntosh and Cila. McIntosh is well on his way to a second first-team All-ACC performance this season, and Cila is 'underachieving' his way to being one of the leading scorers in the ACC. I wish I could 'underachieve' that good!

With their track record this season being that they have problems getting up for the minnows and rising to the occasion against the big fish (see Clemson and UNC), expect a great match in Charlottesville this weekend.

What makes you guys think I'm disgruntled? Just giving my opinion, that's all.

In regards to Cila, I've seen him score some nice goals, but he really disappears at times which makes him inconsistent. He did score a beauty against Carolina this season.

Nothing against McIntosh either...he's good...I just think Perea is the engine of that team.

McIntosh is the man on that team. Perea is too inconsistent...one minute he is brilliant and the next he has decided that he's not going to play all the way that day.

Congrats to the Duke soccer team. Who would have ever thought that at this point in the seson we would still be interested in them?

luvda bears: still wondering on some critique of the other team in that game: Campbell University...........i have seen five or six of their games this season, and it seems that so many of their close losses could have been wins.....it just seems like they have been losing for so long that they cant get over the psychological hurdle to have the confidence to win the close ones...but i think their group of juniors this year will turn the table next year, especially with the freshman class they have this year....look for them to upset some teams in the future and make themselves a force in the southest region over the next few years.

I thought Campbell looked good in the second half, and I'd say they outplayed Duke. I watched the game with a good friend who's a former D1 head coach, and he was impressed with Campbell's play in the second half.

In the first half, they were doing a lot of chasing, and defensively, they had trouble keeping their shape. Actually, Duke's second goal should have been called back for offsides.
