Mainz 05 wins 3:1 (3:1) and are back in a promotion spot, but no mention of either YAs. Next game vs Alemannia Aachen. 62 Cologne 58 Freiburg 53 Mainz ========= 52 Frankfurt
If Mainz promote perhaps they could use another cheap American in Gibbs. He does have Bundesliga experience after all...
Re: Re: Duhaney/Gibson: Mainz 05 vs. Duisburg, 4/21 [R] More likely, Mainz will have less Americans, not more.
Re: Re: Re: Duhaney/Gibson: Mainz 05 vs. Duisburg, 4/21 [R] Agree. Grover Gibson is probably in their future plans (if Hannover's Ralf Rangnick does not try to bring him in as some expect). Duhaney will most likely be out of the picture.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Duhaney/Gibson: Mainz 05 vs. Duisburg, 4/21 [R] What has happened to Grover this year? Has he played at all? Is he injured? Coach's decisions? Out of favor? I had such high expectations for him this year but all I ever see are DNPs.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Duhaney/Gibson: Mainz 05 vs. Duisburg, 4/21 [R] He played about 5 minutes in the opener, after that I don't know. Gibbs: even the St. Pauli brass will tell you he had no business playing the Bundesliga last year. It was painful to watch.
gibson played a bit in the opener...then picked up and injury and was out till october. on return, he came on in the 85 th minute (or thereabouts) in the game against karlsruhe...only to be guilty of a horrendous giveaway which led directly to the last minute equaliser. not good, especially at home. he hasn't seen the bench since. if (when!!) FSV promotes, the immediate need is at striker, with leading BL2 goal scorer adreij voronin (ukrainian international) already signed for 1.FC Koln for next year. gibbs would not IMHO be an attractive target...one he's a defender, and two he's not better than the current defenders. (tried to put that diplomatically) i agree with Martin that promotion will mean, most likely, the end of the amis time in mainz...but a cheap american striker...hmmm, sets one thinking (wishfully)...but unfortunately, the usa strikers that come to mind (as to possibly holding their own in the BL) wouldn't be cheap (mcbride) or are on record as not wanting to go back to germany (donovan). one thing leapt to mind tho' (and all my german friends are like, whatever! no amis please!)---whadda 'bout mathis?? he's outta contract as of oct. (like metro's goin' postseason?? cracka please...)---hence no transfer fee...he's big enough physically for the BL, they already know him a bit here through WC 02 and because he scored in the warmup game in rostock before the WC....hmmmm...someone email juergen klopp!
Gibson has four games: Game 1: 9 minutes Game 4: full 90, rating 3.5 Game 5: started and substituted at halftime, rated 5 (did a major mistake, which led to his bad position) Game 11: 19 minutes, did another big mistake that led to the game winner for the opponent, and since then he did not get a further chance. Last time on the bench must be about beginning of December.
my bad, the karlsruhe game was nov. 4 (after that he---gibson--- wasn't even on the bench)---dunno why i thought it was in oct.---getting old! forgot to mention about the reutlingen game (5.spieltag---that olaf pointed out) where he screwed up as well.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Duhaney/Gibson: Mainz 05 vs. Duisburg, 4/21 [R] Except for that time that he marked out Pizarro.....
