Did everyone else fail to realize one thing: Mexico played with only 3 players (Arrellano, Carmona, O. Sanchez) that were on its 23-man World Cup Roster, whereas the US played with 8 (Beasley, Donovan, Hejduk, Mastroeni, Mathis, McBride, Pope, including substitute Jones) plus Chris Armas who would've been a shoe-in had he not gotten injured.

While the US was also missing players (O'Brien, Reyna, Keller & Friedel), they were not missing nearly as critical a part of their World Cup nucleus as Mexico was (Palencia, Borgetti, Blanco, Torrado, Marquez, Ramon Morales, Luna, & 'Conejo' Perez, in addition to other players of lower calibre). This match was clearly a match of mostly Mexico's young, unproven players versus some of the US's most experienced and top quality talent.
