This is great news. He is a pretty underrated player around here IMO. He is versatile... he has pace, vision, can shoot and is surprisingly stout on D for someone of his size. He really impressed me when the coach moved him further up the pitch this season. I think he plays well at CDM but like him more as an attacking right midfielder. GB needs to get this guy into camp when the USMNT finally regroups. I wish the game was on ESPN+. Hoping someone can point out a live stream... Can you actually get iFollow in the US? I would love to be able to watch Derby (Holmes) and Wigan (Antonee) on the regular.

Perfect compliment to McKennie-Adams midfield, behind Pulisic-Reyna-Altidore.

Holmes and A. Robinson are two guys who benefit of the US-fan mania with overrating everything England in soccer.

Disagree, I think both players add significant quality to our player pool and I don’t think their overrated because of some English-bias, media contribution or latent Euro-snobbery. Holmes adds an attacking quality, and frankly so does Robinson, that we otherwise lack.

Or maybe their just significantly better options than Daniel Lovitz and Christian Roldan. Both have been given ample chances to show their not good enough. These two flashed that they are yet haven’t been given legit chances. No one is saying their perfect but they both deserve chances.

lol. The OP said that Holmes should be invited to camp - I guess you think he doesn’t deserve that and those who do are over-rating him?

I have only seen him play twice, but Holmes looked quick and creative and active both times. Given the USMNT’s recent performance, he certainly deserves an invite—particularly given his position.

i agree he deserves to be called in (particularly when his competition for a roster spot is similar level) but I’m less optimistic on Holmes than ARobinson as usually mid 20s minor leaguers are who they are.

conversely, ARobinson is young and has more potential upside - similar to Pomykal, Llanez, Ledezma, etc.

I don’t claim with enough knowledge of these players to refute what you were saying here. However, I do think that the term “minor leaguer“ belies the quality of the minor-league in which Holmes plays.

the USMNT level isn’t much, if any, above high end minor league. The gap between the big 4 and even the best minor leagues is significant as we see when teams get relegated quickly upon promotion and in the B1/B2 relegation playoff games.

Holmes needs to be given a proper shot with the NT, because so far he's only come in as a sub and it's easier to look ace when you come in with fresh legs.

I've deleted a couple of posts that were mainly, if purely about the national team selection process. Please keep in mind that that purpose of YA threads is to focus on the players' club careers.

Duane subbed out in the 62nd minute vs Millwall with the score 1-1 (Duane was not involved in Derby’s goal)

Derby has since taken a 2-1 lead after Duane was subbed out. It’s the 85th minute now

Holmes came on in the 69th minute and picked up a yellow cared in stoppage time as Derby won 2-1.

Derby County are now in 8th, 3 points off of 6th and the last promotion playoff spot. They are away to 7th placed Preston on Wednesday.

Holmes hustles to beat an attacker to a rebound at 4:52 of the below video:

Holmes also makes two appearances going up against Miazga starting at 2:07 in the below Miazga highlight video.

No, I meant to. Derby were playing Reading so Holmes makes a couple of appearances in the Miazga video starting at 2:07.

The Preston/Derby is being featured on ESPN+ this Wed. I hope Holmes gets the start.
