Derby loses on a late own goal. Holmes had an assist and was subbed out in the 79th minute. Didn't get to see the game. Hoping someone that did can post their thoughts on his play. Really hoping that him being subbed off bodes well w/ respect to him playing the full 90 on Friday.
If Derby were in worse form, that would be a manager sacking kind of loss. Concede within 5 minutes of scoring on two separate occasions, and manage to lose a lead and the draw (twice), to the worst team in the league who hadn't won any of their last 9 matches. Really bad result for Derby. The only silver lining is that they're unlikely to be relegated, but that result slams the door shut on their chances of making the playoffs IMO.
Ace defending, that! But, how awesome it is to give Rooney an assist. Rooney is probably my favorite England player from way back when he was at Everton. I'm sure Holmes will get more assists with Rooney.

Good assist, and with Hull and QPR facing tough games at home next, Derby is likely to climb to #14, safe in mid-table.

Yes, even I think Holmes's time has arrived. Is it me or BigSoccer has been lagging badly for two weeks already? Any way we could help them modernize their server or move to a decent host?
Another very good game for Holmes. He looks dangerous in this new attacking role. He nearly sprung another guy for an uncontested run at the keeper to go along with the assist... which came after and unbelievable dribble. He looks like a poor man's Pulisic on offense... and is decidedly good at tackling which CP really isn't. Overall, I am starting to think he is a better offensive option than Weston. It may just be that Wes is suffering from musical chair positioning?... I think he played well today... but I am not sure he is ever going to be the guy we want attacking in the midfield. His dribbling and shooting instincts don't seem all that strong. Perhaps he is better suited at a more defensive position? I am eager to see how he performs in the coming weeks if he remains in the midfield. Either way... Holmes has done more than enough to solidify his roster spot on the USMNT IMO. Derby County is lucky to have him and now that Rooney is in the lineup I think they could make a run at the last playoff slot.

He’s a little old to be “developing.” So he either has a great work ethic, or is getting great coaching, or some of each.
Or making up for lost time. IIRC @bshredder posted about him admitting that he hadn't always been the most focused when he was breaking through at Huddersfield (Championship wages at 20 years old tend have that effect). Nobody's saying that about him these days. The other change is that Derby has a new coach and a transformed squad since last season. Duane's a senior pro now, being given more responsibilities and opportunities to produce than he's had before in his career. He keeps stepping up to the plate, so he's getting more responsibilities and opportunities.

Too bad I can't watch it :-(... He has been my favorite player to watch of late outside of Dest. I wish ESPN+ just covered all of the cup matches.

That looks like a picture taken a split second before Holmes decks the guy he's looking at. Pretty menacing look, that.

As the embed in the next post, notes 3 goals and 2 assists in 5 games. We're getting into Holmes is going up, with or without Derby territory, rather than the other way around.
