If Germany is gonna call him up, then by all means go but I doubt that happens. Alternative for him this window is stay home or file a one time switch to play U21 qualifiers. Seems odd to turn down this window when it would still keep the door open to switch to Germany, and a good chance to see how he likes playing for The US
It also may be if he wants to play for Germany he doesn’t want to waste our time. Hard to know. It’s also the case that Pochettino is not likely to push if he doesn’t get an affirmative answer (whereas someone like Berhalter would have been very aggressive on this front).
90 days out from a home World Cup is not the time to get cold feet. I could see Poch moving on and I wouldn’t blame him. Banks has to do what’s right for his career, but we have to do what’s right for this World Cup. I’m ok if we moved on for now. I have my doubts that he would play any significant long-term role for Germany’s full team.

Pochettino has called him apparently, while no one from Germany has. 🚨🆕 Mauricio Pochettino is pushing for Noahkai #Banks to play for the United States. The two have already spoken on the phone. The 19 y/o centre-back top talent is still undecided and also has strong ambitions to play for Germany. So far, none of the senior officials at the DFB… pic.twitter.com/fzoizxteDh— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) March 12, 2026
Responding to Tim. Gregg doesnt get enough credit for getting the dual nationals to have team spirit and camaraderie. It didn't need to be that way.
Gregg was an absolute legend at dual recruiting, no doubt about that. Banks is Poch's test, an important test. If he cant keep Banks, he will be judged for it. Fair or not. If it means a guaranteed roster spot for the cup, thats literally not even an unfair request at this point. Hes put in the work on merit.
I’m not sure how long this has been a thing but Bryan Okoh is following the USMNT on Instagram. He’s been pretty good in Ligue 1 these few games so he could be one to watch.— MP 🇺🇸 (@UnderratedUSMNT) March 14, 2026 Okoh is lowkey a pretty important dual nat.
Could he even play for the US? He is 22 now, and he has played for Swiss U-17 to U-21 teams. If he really is interested in playing for the US, he probably would have to file a one-time switch.
I believe you are correct. He played in Euro U-21 qualifying matches for Switzerland so I think that requires a one-time switch.
If the theory is that Sebastian Berhalter and Cristian Roldan owe their NT introductions to high-profile victories over Messi's Inter Miami, then Poch is probably begging Cristian Espinoza to get naturalized right now.
Life will go on if Banks switches. But we shouldnt kid ourselves. He's our #1 or #2 prospect, depending on jow you feel about Sullivan.. A blue chopper.
Forgive me if I'm wrong on this, but as far as I'm aware, Luca Koleosho is still technically eligible to play for us. Italy's failure to qualify makes this longshot appear even less likely, however. The Gazetta dello Sport lists him as one of the key young players for Italy's rebuild: https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Nazi...-bartesaghi-arena-kayode/futuro-azzurro.shtml. He also recently said he feels Italian in his heart despite holding four passports: https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Nazi...rti-ma-cuore-ho-italia-460878658589_amp.shtml. I expect the door for him to play for the US to formally close in the first international window after the World Cup.
I agree he seems consistent in what he says, that he feels Italian. Every player is unique, and it’s easier as a fan to come to terms with someone who states their position with decisiveness, but at the end of the day, what can you say if he knows he wants Italy. Best of luck to him. They may need him more than we do.
