Immigration policy at the forefront following Trump’s election | FOX 26 Houston During his campaign, Trump vowed to enact mass deportations, end birthright citizenship, and reinforce U.S. borders, a platform that won him the presidency and will mark a significant shift in policy, if implemented.
A constitutional amendment requires 2/3 vote in both chambers. And three fourths of the states to agree. And while there is a Republican majority on SCOTUS I don’t think there’s five votes for this on the court. And even for legislation generally the filibuster still exists and the votes simply don’t exist in the Republican caucus to get rid of it. The only thing that can be passed with 50 votes is through reconciliation which only involves thing where the primary purpose is spending money or budgetary in nature. Changing immigration law just doesn’t qualify. Absent a deal at least 7 Democratic Senators would sign onto. I have zero doubt that he will do the maximum he can on immigration via executive authority. And there’s a lot he can do. But there are quite a few institutional checks that exist that making getting rid of birthright citizenship quite difficult. In short I expect the next Balogun or Musah born during Trump’s next term will still be eligible for the future USMNT (to keep things on topic instead of veering into the political).
We're in a new era. Institutional checks are only as strong as the values of those whose duty it is to enforce them.
So back to Chase.... Either Japan is not calling him up for who know knows what reason but he heart is set on them. If this is the case only can hope that we can convince him to come to us in March due to their stupidity. Or he is turning down both countries at the moment as he is not ready to decide his future.
Meanwhile Diego Luna is desperate to play for the USMNT and US Soccer won't give him the time of day (not even at the U-23 level)... it would be one thing if Luna was missing out on these rosters because Poch was actually recruiting other guys like Koleosho (which apparently he's not), but Luna being left off because of Alex Zendejas which is just silly, given the latter has been a complete zero with the national team. If US Soccer loses Diego Luna to Mexico they have no one to blame but themselves. Diego Luna is still not called up for the US senior national team. He finished this season MLS with 8 goals and 12 assists in 31 games, and won the YPOTY award. It's absurd that he's not on the roster. USMNT. Mexico is already stalking his one-time switch to recruit him. 1855636954911477798 is not a valid tweet id
Diego Luna isn't playing for Mexico either unless he goes to Liga MX (and performs which shouldn't be difficult as Efra Alvarez is doing way better in Tijuana than he was in LA Galaxy) or plays in Europe. Who would Luna replace in the Mexican NT? No one. He is stuck. Best he can do is play U23 with Mexico, if that.
Yep. This is an already an era where the judiciary shits out an opinion because it makes them feel good. If Republican elites decide that it is best for them to end birthright citizenship by mutilating the 14th Amendment of the Constitution yet again, then they are going to do it. US Soccer is just going to have to do what it can to manage.
That’s pretty discouraging if I am being honest. Obviously, I only want guys who are excited to play for the U.S., but a good/persistent salesman could help dual nats like Chase and Koleosho see an opportunity that they might not see on their own.
Nathaniel Brown goal.. who needs a fullback with two goals in two Bundesliga starts 1855669098023194676 is not a valid tweet id 1855669603373871135 is not a valid tweet id I'm confused, wasn't Lund also playing in the second division? And now Brown is scoring for fun in the Bundesliga while Lund isn't even playing in Serie B.... great work by Gregg here, incredible talent evaluation 1855668421913899278 is not a valid tweet id 1855668995644342431 is not a valid tweet id
Yeah short of a constitutional amendment he can’t run again. Which won’t happen. But which also would open the door for what would be his toughest opponent who is also not allowed to run for a third term.
I wouldn't say he's doing WAY better, he just had a better team and coach at this time. I don't know anything about Diego luna but he's already 21 numbers look ok, I just don't see him breaking through either the US or Mexico at this time.
First, Luna has to go to Europe, which I think he will. Depending on how that goes is going to determine which national team he can play for. Saying that Mexico is much easier to make than USMNT especially when Mexico doesn't have a good number 10 or winger.
I have no problem with any of that. Show passion for playing for the USMNT........................like Antonee, Musah, and others have...............then you'll be in the group. Frankly, a lot of the dual-national recruiting happens in the youth teams/programs. That's where we establish a relationship with many players like Dest, Weah, and others.
Yeah, apart from the dual nat issue, we've been talking the past few windows about the team not showing intensity and not being up for games, with some suggesting that maybe it's time to go back to some "try hard" types even if they aren't as skilled and aren't at glamorous clubs. So, I think Pochettino is right to frame dual nat recruiting in that context. We don't need to keep improving our Badge FC ranking if it doesn't translate to wins on the field.
We've been having this debate for a long time. This Pochettino comment is very similar to what Bruce Arena said about Rossi and dual-nats back in the day. [Rossie was asked to participate in a training camp with U.S. just prior to the 2006 World Cup, but declined; prompting Arena to publicly state the U.S. would not chase players who didn’t want to play for the U.S.] The fact that Giussepe didn't actually show any passion whatsoever for playing for the US, didn't stop the board from crushing Arena and the USSF for it. This board is always in recruit the "dual-national flavor of the month" mode as hard as possible. That's fine. We're fans. It doesn't seem to matter if we've even read or heard one word indicating they're actually interested. We're allowed to be a little nutty. We're fans. If Koleosho and Brown are passionate about playing for us, then why are they in Italy U21 and Germany U21 camps right now? They're not committed to us at the moment...............is the answer. Chase? Now that's a very interesting one. Very interesting. Ever since it seems we've been recruiting him (at least if you believe the twitterverse), he's not been involved with Japan in any way. Interesting. Very interesting. Of the three, he's the one behaving as if he might be interested in an imminent one-time switch. I don't know if that's perception or reality.
Depends on how you read the quote. I agree with Poch that we need players who want to play their hearts out for the USMNT without any question. On the other hand, we are not Argentina, Brazil, or France, where we have depth for many positions. We are the USA, where we might have two players in each position. It's kind of hard, how to deal with this..
There will be worries/doubts as long as we don’t know the specific details of their interactions whenever we miss out on a dual nat. I don’t know much about Brown, but what I’ve seen from Koleosho has me pretty convinced that he is our 3rd best eligible winger right now. I wouldn’t want pochettino making promises, but if I were him, I’d have no qualms about telling him that he would immediately get a chance to earn a spot in the best 23, and that minutes will be available if he performs. If he made that clear and Koleosho said, “I have zero interest, I’m staying with Italy” I can get why he wouldn’t chase him. But if he’s somewhat receptive to that message, then Poch should regularly remind him of his opportunity with us, and that it could be years if he gets the same chance with Italy. Chase and brown seem to be in similar situations, but I haven’t seen them play. The full quote from Poch is much better than the partial one, but one still must wonder exactly what he is telling them and how they’re responding.
