Chase can wait another 6 months to see his option.
1) Both US and Japan are guaranteed to play in World Cup.
2) He may feel more comfortable to play for US alongside Dest, Trusty, CCV, Jedi, Adams, Musah, McKennie, Busio, Balogun, Weah, then play for Japan with Zizuki. Both of them would generate tons of abuse if they made few mistakes.
3) Or he maybe not good enough for both teams even as a late sub.
4) For US, he may get a Brooks 2014 WC treatment.

No, that's sone confusion over a recent ruling. He could be IF he also had at least one competitive full NT cap. In that case, the U21 matches could count toward the 3 total appearances to cap tie him.

But if you never appeared for the full NT, you can never be cap-tied.

Heard mention of the rumors of the coming end of birthright citizenship in the United States. This thread could be a lot less active in future years if that indeed comes to pass.

 

One of Japan’s starting CBs had to withdraw from their November roster due to injury and they didn’t call up Anrie Chase to replace him. They called in another defender from the J League Hiroki Sekine. It will be his 1st senior call up to Japan.

 

Well, Brown has been called up by Germany U21s and Koleosho has been called up by Italy U21s. So we know its not them.

There's something not right there. He should be in Japan's squad.

I was extremely negative about our chances of getting him. But now I'm cautiously cautious. I've still never seen or read a single word from Chase that he's actually interested.

There could still be untied dual-nationals of interest. Just not those three higher-profile recruiting jobs.

THAT is still a dual-national worth recruiting. Not provisionally cap-tied to us.
There could still be Spain coaches whispering in his ear (like we heard rumors of in the past).
If he doesn't have Spanish citizenship yet, he's probably close.

What's funny is the posts in the twitterverse about how we "lose" these dual nationals. People already trashing Pochettino. As if them not being in the squad is a failure. We don't have these players. We're the ones trying to poach these players away from other programs. We get who we can get. Getting one of these three players will be a victory. Sometimes we have to be patient as we're sloppy seconds in case Germany or Italy (or France or England or Argentina) doesn't look like it's going to work out.

 

Most of our dual nats were born to American service members. There will be no change in the status of this type of situation. If we were to look at our roster the only player who might come into question would be Musah and I might be wrong about him.

 

By the way.......................Noahkai Banks is with our U20s in this window. So that's still a "hold."
As are a bunch of other dual-nationals. That entire squad seems like dual-nationals of one sort or another.

We don't know what Diego Kochen is thinking, but as far as we know, he is staying with the USMNT. If Kochen is on the roster, that should tell you everything you need to know.

An awful lot were simply born in the US without a previous family tie to the US - Pepi, Kik, Balogun, Johnny, Sonoras.

We would see a drop in the number of players from Latin America and from refugees.

 

I mean we have plenty of dual nationals born in the US, including recent players we’ve most like Esmir or Vargas.

There’s definitely a subset of dual nationals developed abroad who are the children of American service members, but they’re also not the only ones. People have all kinds of ties to the US. See Antonee Robinson, CCV, or Amir Richardson.

 

This is extremely unlikely however as it’d require a constitutional amendment. Which requires 2/3 of the Senate and House and 3/4 of the states. It’s just a nonstarter.

 

While an amendment would certainly address it, a ruling by SCOTUS could also substantially change the interpretation of the 14th Amendment. The precedence was set by United States v. Wong Kim Ark in 1898, but could be re-interpreted by this court. The 14th isn't so airtight that it couldn't be re-interpreted to include only those with certain legal statuses at birth.

Understand that the incoming administration has set sight on birthright citizenship.

 

I think a lot would also depend on the specifics of any change. For example, ending birthright citizenship for children of foreign nationals would represent a pretty drastic policy change and deeply affect our talent pool, but ending it only for people whose parents are in the U.S. illegally would have a much smaller effect on our pool.

In the dual-national game you're spinning a bunch of plates in the air.
It's as important to "hold" the guys you do have in the program as it is to recruit others away.
Try to minimize the Esmir and Vargas kind of losses.

 

I have zero doubt the incoming administration has lots of plans, particularly when it comes to immigration policy. But I don’t see their plans coming to fruition on ending birthright citizenship. I don’t think there’s 5 votes on the Court right now for reinterpreting that case in a fashion that is very much at odds with the plain text itself.

Of course I could be wrong but we’ll see.

 

There are dual nats that we should win and Banks is one of them, same with Kochen.
Players like Alex Woiski or Tyler Meiser are the dual nats the US should try to go after.
