My million dollar question if I'm Luca Koleosho is what formation does Poch want to play? Because the most noticeable move in his first camp was really pushing Jedi Robinson forward. But what happens when Dest is healthy? As an outsider (Canadian), Dest is a player that scares me and who I expect to start once he's healthy. Who knows what the future holds, but 3-4-3 makes a lot of sense, right? And even if it's a hybrid back-4/back-3 with Jedi bombing forward in possession that does limit the need/role of an attacking winger. In either case, Koleosho is fighting with two of Pulisic, Weah, Reyna, and Aaronson to get on the pitch at all... if Poch doesn't play a 4-2-3-1, Koleosho is going to have a hard time getting a lot of playing time as it stands IMO. With Canada, I think we're pretty married to Davies at LB at this point, which opens up space for Koleosho to start. Buchanan has been in poor form post-World Cup (and a broken leg and limited playing time in Milan aren't helping), but I think we need to back Buchanan to come good because he's just a better player than the other options. Shaffelburg, Ahmed, Millar, Laryea and Sigur are all options on the wings (and Buchanan can play either side), but for me Koleosho has a pretty good chance at walking into the starting XI. So if it were about the best opportunity to play, I think Canada makes sense. But if he had the options, I don't really know why he wouldn't play for the US. I can't know his thoughts, but it certainly seems the obvious choice. FWIW there was a rumour up here that Herdman offered Koleosho a spot on the 2022 World Cup roster if he committed. Don't know if that's true or not, but Herdman liked him early.
He needs to be careful with playing with Italy U21. Suppose Luca continues to play with Italy U21 when he is 21 or older. Luca could be a permanent cap tie to Italy.
I believe this abt Herdman. Koleosho accepted a full senior squad call-up, but if memory serves correct neither of those two matches were every played. I on't see why he would have accepted that call-up (while playing coy with the USMNT), if he wasn't prepared to fully commit to Canada. If he is a superstitious guy, perhaps he took those canceled matches as a bad omen and started rethinking things haha.
No, I think we always knew Koleosho wasn't going to play in that window. It was a chance to come in, let him meet everyone, kick the tires as it were.... that was the window where the friendly with Iran was cancelled in light of the Flight 752 bombing and then the players went on strike instead playing the last-minute make-up match against Panama. They did play their Nations League match v Curacao, but Koleosho was never going to play in that match and get provisionally cap-tied and everything I heard made it sound like he wasn't going to actually play v Panama. He was just there to be in camp. And he picked a doozy for his first experience.
Youth caps never permanently cap-tie a player, even at the U23 level. You still have a one-time switch available. It's different if he starts playing for the senior national team in addition to playing for the youth teams.
Also Milan first goal came off pulisic corner……. After all these years, has he finally become a reliable corner kick option? It seems so……
He has been money on corners of late. Oddly enough, last season he was killing it with out-swingers for a time but this season he has the whip and dip on the in-swingers that seem to be dotting that near post danger area. He deserves credit for sure.
Cade Cowell is a good player but he is not playing in an amazing league. Liga MX is a good level but not a top level.
I wrote this about Shaffy. He plays in the MLS and is better than Cowell by a significant margin IMO. Overall, we have never had a USMNT pool w/ club resumes that were even close to what they are now but nearly across the board our players underwhelm when wearing the US crest. The thing I like about Canada is that their players seem to over-perform for their NT. On paper we should clearly be the best NT in CONCACAF but we have not played like that since the group stage of the WC.
Anyone know when Japan's roster drops? Anyone know when the USMNT roster drops? Holding out for this mystery, coveted Dual-Nat, but I heard Edgar already dismissed the rumor as BS...
Midnight EST if you are in the East Coast or 11/7 2pm in Japan. I'm in the East Coast, so in about two hours.
Oh wow big news. Perhaps it was not Luka... nor Chase... but Nathaniel Brown all along! Nate has talked to Poch btw https://t.co/RZXRR8vyd9— Edgar M. (@ConcacafEdgar) November 7, 2024
If Poch has talked to Nathaniel Brown I'm sure he's also talked to Chase and Koleosho, given they are far more "on the radar"... wonder who else he's talked to?
Bet hes talked to Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar too honestly. Not about national team recruiting, but talking to them, which is still probably pretty cool
