I doubt Pochettino has reached out but Crocker may have.

The idea that Matt Crocker would be calling up dual-nationals outside of the framework of a USMNT or USYNT staff doesn't really make sense to me. That's not his role. He's not a coach or scout or player evaluator. He's an administrator.

If a USMNT staff came to him and said "These are the players we've identified that we want to work with and recruit"...........................then maybe he and Oguchi Onyewu would get involved. Maybe Pochettino has already done that. I imagine (and I understand its an assumption) that the USSF has a pretty sophisticated database of eligible players for a new USMNT coach to peruse. With plenty of game film to watch. And any eligible player of Chase's age and reputation should immediately be of interest.

[I suspect that we were in communication with him at the start of the Olympic cycle. Then he became cap-tied to Japan at that level so it became moot. Another assumption on my part.]

I will say that people expected Chase to get a call this window from Japan. If he accepted and played it would be over as this window is qualifiers for WC. He is not on the team for this window.

I think having the sporting director be involved in dual national recruiting is exactly what you want. And Earnie Stewart was definitely involved in some recruitments.

The sporting director is the only consistent person across the various age groups and they are the one who is there longer term compared to the coach. There’s absolutely a role there, even if it’s just keeping things going until Pochettino has time to have a conversation.

A sporting director is much more than just an administrator. And player evaluation is very much part of the job.

Chase was also healthy in Sunday and played the whole game.

I was also thinking that if Chase is potentially interested in the USMNT, he wouldn't necessarily need anyone to reach out to him to make the decision not to get himself cap-tied. If he might be interested, he'd know that we just got a new, big-name coach and that we have CB issues. And we've probably also been in touch with him about YNTs in the past. He might have just said to himself he'd sit out this window to let the dust settle with Pochettino a bit and see if there is interest from him.

Again, this is presupposing that he's somewhat interested in the USMNT.

The only reason why I asked that is because that is the rumor on the block.
Suppose that's true then I will also agree that he is waiting and seeing what happens. Japan has some good CB but not the depth to not need him

Chase is a weird one. He actually lived in the US for a decade, unlike some duals. But he looks pretty set in the Japanese system. If he switched now, there's a strong possibility of starting WC26. But he might find himself in a battle later.

I just can't imagine Japan didn't call up Chase. They brought in 2 domestic defenders who have zero caps this window. Surely a Champions League defender would be higher in the pecking order over them. On top of that, they know he is a dual-national going up against a country that knows how to go after them. They could not be that dense to not cap-tie him.

Chase probably also knows that if he goes, he's going to be brought in as a late sub to cap tie him. I assume he is not ready to make the decision which is why he said no.

Next window will be huge. I would be stunned if he is in our roster next window; there's no reason for him to commit to the US in November. But if he is still starting in the Bundesliga and still not in Japan's roster... I would say we have a great shot.

Sounds like Chase I’d guess but could be Kolesheo also.

"a player for the senior team who has top flight experience"

Not that many guys out there who would currently be relevant to the USMNT... in order of importance:

    1. Luca Koleosho (LW - Italy)
    2. Anrie Chase (CB - Japan)
    3. Nathaniel Brown (LB - Germany)
    4. Taishi Brandon Nozawa (GK - Japan)
Not even sure who would be fifth, maybe Fidel Barajas (LWB - Mexico)?

Assuming it's Chase given recent developments

Chase seems the most important given the weakness at center back.

Maybe now that Saban is retired USSF can bring him on and put him in charge of dual national recruiting.

Getting Chase would be big for the program.

Team could really use a promising young CB playing in the BL.
