Too lazy to check but I believe the next Qualifer is in a few days against Norway. Probably being saved for that match. Or maybe a better player had a some good days of Training and he was preferred.
I still hope I’m wrong, and he turns things around, but I never saw “it” with Gomez. He’s skilled, but he’s slight, not super athletic, and not great defensively. He kinda reminds me of Edgar Castillo, though Castillo (from what I remember) was more of a dribbler. There’s a reason a guy like Wiley has zipped past Gomez on the LB depth chart. Even though Wiley might not be as skilled, he has the athletic profile of a modern LB/winger.
Fullback is one of the positions also where athleticism matters the most if you are going to make it at the highest level.
I also wonder if he's not all the way back from last years injury, and Italy want to keep him with the group. The dynamic of being part of the team has helped us with our fair share of Dual Nationals for sure.
Koleosho is provisionally cap-tied to Italy. So if he's not ready to make a switch, this is the nation/team he's going to play with. He could easily be in their U21 Euros squad. But anyway, Bresser of PSV has been called up by Holland youth. Onze 2️⃣8️⃣ #PSVAcademy internationals 🌍— PSV (@PSV) September 6, 2024

Alexander Staff Alexander Staff is an extremely promising German-American center-forward.The Dieburg native has only ever played for the German Youth teams. Esmir cap tied to Bosnia... and despite Berhalter saying you basically have to be Memphis Depay level (who is either without a club or headed to Brazil?) regularly scoring goals in Champions League to play well against Netherlands... Esmir had an assist vs Netherlands five minutes after making his debut. And they lost 5-2. I hope his dreams didn’t include playing in major tournaments. I do think we will regret losing him, as he will become a very good player imo.
Technically he’s only provisionally tied. Because he’s under 21 he’d have to play four games to be cap tied. Up until that point he can file a switch, he just has to wait three years (which obviously an unlikely scenario but still allowed).
This is a misunderstanding of the one-time switch. He never had to request any kind of change from FIFA.
Meh, with the stoopid overexpansion of the WC, its not out of the question that B-H might actually qualify. OTOH, he may regret missing out on playing in another cashgrab at home every 6 months or so.
Not that it matters, but can he still file a switch back to us? He already filed his switch to play for Bosnia did he not? Can you switch twice now?
No, he didn't file a one-time switch. He simply exercised his option to chose another national team. He wasn't provisionally cap-tied by anything he did previously, so he didn't need a one-time switch. Technically, a player can bounce back and forth, playing all the friendlies, youth or senior, they (and their federations) wish. He is eligible to switch to the US, if he so desires.
What is the relevance of Bosnia losing by 3 goals? Did you expect Esmir to have 5-6 goal contributions in his debut? An assist five minutes after subbing on is pretty good... would've been nice to get that from Morris or Aaronson when they subbed on vs Netherlands. That's what people said in 2023... obviously you're not a horror movie fan.
I'm waffling on responding to this because I don't want to derail the thread, but here it goes I'm mostly laughing the arbitrary untrue bar you're setting. You don't think a single one of the 16 players who saw the field that day had even a nice 5 minute stretch in that game? Even if it was lucky as hell we still scored a goal and a couple chances at others There does seem to be a divide in the The US fanbase on whether or not that was an actual bad performance or just a game where the better team won. Reasonable minds can disagree on that, but you can't dunk on the latter group by bringing up a game where Bosnia played worse than we did and say "see worse teams can play well against The Netherlands". Using a game a where the underdog got their ass kicked is a terrible example for your point. In 2023 Gregg Berhalter had never been fired. You can post the Esmir highlight without the axe grinding is all I'm saying. He's not relevant to The 2022 World Cup
The rest of Bosnia is irrelevant as they are not eligible to play for the US, but Esmir's assist wasn't a fluke... Esmir who is NOT scoring in Champions League (just like... Memphis Depay wasn't when Gregg gave his brilliant post-game analysis). "We don't have a Memphis Depay right now, who's scoring in the Champions League." #USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter says the Netherlands’ attacking quality was the difference between the teams today: “We don’t have a Memphis Depay right now, who’s scoring in the Champions League.”— Doug McIntyre (@ByDougMcIntyre) December 3, 2022 "there wasn’t much separating the teams." “They were clinical in their (scoring) opportunities in the first half, Berhalter said of the Netherlands. “Other than that, there wasn’t much separating the teams.”— Doug McIntyre (@ByDougMcIntyre) December 3, 2022
He never filed a switch in the first place as he never played an official match for the US and didn’t need to. He can file a one time switch to the US, but the circumstances are very unlikely that would lead to him doing so.
Though we also have his current play in MLS which demonstrates he’s not close to being ready for the USMNT.
He didnt deserve a call up based on his performance with NE, but I do think his performance in January indicated that he has the ability to do well at the international level. For me, evaluating players for national duty can be tricky because sometimes guys are just better at club level than national team level, and vice versa. Esmir might be one of those guys who’s made for the international game.
Sure but it’s hard to compete when one team is offering senior team call ups and he’s not at that level for us right now (but could be in the future).
Esmir and Diego Luna were the two best players in the January camp friendly... the Olympic team must have been something special for neither to get much consideration... so how did they lose by a combined 7-0 against the two good teams they faced? < thinking emoji >
....................the USSF staff under Berhalter thought Esmir was a good prospect. Hence why they invited him to January camp when he had 0 career goals and 0 career assists in MLS. If Esmir wanted to be part of the US program; he would be.
Yeah I don’t think we did anything wrong in terms of Esmir. Sometimes you are going to lose a dual national recruiting battle even if you do everything right.
