Sky Sports News are reporting that Chelsea and Marseille have agreed a fee of £24m for Didier Drogba and that the transfer will be completed at anytime no doubt before Wednesday as per JM's wishes that all transfer dealings are completed b4 the squad fly to the US.

As I said on the transfer thread - this is a stupid idea. Paying so much for a striker who's sure to be seen as a disappointment is asking for trouble.

It finally seems that he will leaving us, I think it's a crazy transfert...

-crazy for him, he has only two seasons in ligue 1, and he leaves the club he loves, he had a very high motivation for playing for the club of his heart, I'm not sure that the pressure about his price will help him to be as good as in Marseille...
-crazy for Chelsea, such a high price for only one player who have one only season on the highest level, imagine the first match, bad tackle: outch, injury for the season, means that 36M€ thrown by the window...
-crazy for Bouchet, the fans are angry, and he must quickly find huge names if he want to have a little chance to save his skin...

IMO this transfert has no sense...

Doubting Drogba is doubting Mourinho's skills. From his last comments on Crespo it is obvious Mourinho prefered Drogba upfront. The price is not right because Marseilles took advantage of the situation. I see a lot of goals from Drogba and Kezman next season.

I don't know. I kinda of agree with you in that even if he scores say 15 goals in his first season (which would be great numbersfor is first season) it would be seen as a disappointment because Chelsea broke the bank buying him. I don't really expect big things from him in his first season, but I think by his second season he will show the form that prompted his signing in the 1st place.

He is from Ivory Coast. I'm not sure if he has had international success or if he has even played for Ivory Coast. I think he played for Guingamp before getting transfered to marseille in 2003. He scored 19 goals in Ligue 1, second highest after Cisse. His goal output in Cl and UEFA Cup was very high though. Technically, he hasn't done anything to warrant a a 24 million pound transfer, but I think he has the potential to be one of the best strikers in Europe, (Some argue he already is).

Yes you are right, you all are playing ALOT of money for him . Isn't it like 27 million pounds ? You all now have an abundance of strikers. What partnership are you all going to play?

Its not really the money itself that's the problem. We have enough. Its the expectations that come with being the most expensive striker ever in the EPL on the back of one good season in a second tier league. Unless he scores as many as Ruud or Henry, he'll be a bust. And like it or not, when the entire press is calling you a flop and a disappointment - that leads to a lot of unhappiness.
Sadly, I'm already foreseeing an image of Drogba returning on a "one year loan" to some French club, saying how glad he is to come back to his favorite league.

That doesn't worry me. We had 4 last year, and found room for them. I have a feeling Mourinho will go with whoever has the hot hand. At the moment, look for Kezman and Eidur to start our first game, unless Drogba comes in.

Considering the abundance of strikers you all have and a certain goal scoring machine on our side :) , I am hoping that we have alot of goals in the opening match between the two of us. :)

Look who is talking. Do you think Puff Rio is worthy 30M? and what big experience did Rio had when he went to United. Yes he played WC but so did Heskey. SAF bought him because he needed him badly after selling Stam. I think he is also a bust for missing nearly a whole damn season.

Zani - has Drogba played in the damn EPL? No, so you do not know how he is going to do in England. That is why I say it is alot of money he is not proven. Rio was proven in the EPL when we bought him . And what the hell does missing a whole season have to do with how much he was bought for.Do not forget he played in the 2002/03 season. You might have not discovered football at that time.

How about Henry and these other French players coming from other leagues and be hits in EPL? How about Ruud coming from PSV and be a hit in EPL?

How much did Ruud cost? The only team he played for was PSV in Belgium not even France. No International achievement. No Drogba European record either. Huh?

Almost 4 years later Drogba is gonna cost 24-25 M. - Consider inflation and affordability. Roman really don't give sh!t about 6-7M difference.

Yeah Zani, when Drogba is 30 Years of age he is gonna cost almost the same price he eas bought for. And how can you make an assumption like that? He may even turn out to be a flop.

I am talking about his value now. By 4 years later I meant now.Didn't United buy Ruud about 4 years ago? may be 3. Who cares? Would you sell Ruud for 19M now.

The future is always a mystery. Who knows he could be better than Ronaldo. He could flop like you said and that will determine his future price.

Right now he is a bit over priced because Marseilles are forced to sell and Chelsea are desperate to buy. Rio situation.

the second tier league placed 2 clubs in the european cup finals, how many for the "great" EPL? oh any...
which team have beaten Liverpool and Newcastle, oh it's Marseille, and they finished 7th of the second tier league, and Chelsea...let's see I can't remeber where the team they beaten them was come from...oh they were from the second tier league...
don't be so arrogant...the EPL is very close to ligue 1...

and for Drogba the larger opinion is that he will score a huge amount of gaols in EPL, because the defenses are totally crap there, and that's why the not so good Henry seems so good there...it's not really MY point, but I think it's not totally wrong...

 We've been through this before. Look a the current UEFA coefficients, and you'll see Ligue 1 is a good deal below the EPL. You had one good year, in which, mind you, you didn't win anything.

How is it not totally wrong to suggest that English defenses are worse than Ligue 1 defenses? That just makes no sense, considering all the good defenders from Ligue 1 go to either Spain, Italy or England.
