Minnesota United FC need good defenders urgently.

Will Packwood, A.J. Soares, Zak Whitbread, George John and Clarence Goodson are free agents and good defenders. I think they would be good players for Minnesota United FC.

    More from 55.1 piece

    • Quick Hits It’s believed most of Minnesota’s moves in the summer will stay within MLS. Any player acquired will be seen as a piece for future years, rather than a five-month stopgap.
    • Nicholson would most likely not be a designated player, and Minnesota still has allocation money to use if his salary exceeds $480,625. At Hearts, he played with US international Perry Kitchen. Kitchen spent five years with D.C. United.
    • There’s still a chance that young players like Collin Martin, Ismaila Jome, and Joe Greenspan could see fall loan spells.
    • The Loons do have an open international spot for Nicholson or another. However, they’d need to open up another slot on the senior roster. With John Alvbåge’s loan expiring in June, it’s possible that his option would be declined to free a spot for the young Scot. Meanwhile, there are still questions about Vadim Demidov’s future with Minnesota, as he hasn’t made the matchday 18 in more than a month. -

Eh not a bad move but doesn't seem like a great move either. I would also hope none of Minnesota's moves are for a 5 month stop gap. The only teams doing those moves are title contenders, and well Minnesota has a long way to go. Be curious to see if any of the long term players will actually be DPs that bring some excitement.

I think we are still trying to reduce our depth gap.

Stick to MLS to bolster the roster and if they want to gamble, gamble on NASL/USL players.

Don't really disagree with that. Have to make up for the four Scandinavians.

Yup, I think the Scandinavian scouting trip, if anything, showed just how inexperienced our scouting game is outside of the domestic leagues. If there is one place I think Manny and Amos have a feel for talent it is here at home. Lets take advantage of that and allow our overseas scouting pipelines to mature... Speaking of overseas scouting it's kind of surprising that the club hasn't looked to Brazil again. The Loons in the NASL were all about Brazil and even had that preseason trip down there.

And if we do get Nicholson? Ibarra moves to the right and Molino to the 10?

Sorry for the delay, but I am not seeing anything immediately on these contracts.

Agreed on all four of those. And with Alvbage leaving, they will most certainly get another gk.

And with Burch's injury, they hinted that they would want another FB.

The Allen loan and future purchase deal is sort of exciting. The Boxall signing not so much.
