PERHAPS Kaka and Luis Fabiano will be given a break. Especially since tonight Nilmar, who was from the bench, scored 3 thanks to Robinho being injured and already back in England. Now Dunga has a "headache" - one of his bench players started and scored 3 for Brazil. Robinho has scored his goals, but lately, he hasn't been the goalscorer he is expected to be. So if Nilmar starts vs. Venezuela in the last game... watch out. King Aguero: I know it's hard right now. All your team can do now is play its heart out and win vs. Peru and Uruguay. I hope the results of these games are to your liking.
That's the thing, even if Brazil plays Team B, the B players are auditioning for spots. Personally I've always felt for some reason Brazil's B team is usually more dangerous. I can't back that up though.
Thank you i really appreciate your support man but im not that dissapointed because in along run had Maradona won this game today the pressure would have been taken off his shoulders and he would have stayed even though he is anyhow but imagine this Argentina in the WC? a first round exit with 1 point so to me i like what happened since it will take Maradona out of his position and thats hoping these ppl in Argentina start doing something about it before its too late
Assuming you guys make it to 2010. Between October 2009 and June 2010, you've got 7 months. Even if Maradona is not fired, that would be enough time for a real coach to join the staff even as a technical advisor. There will be FIFA friendlies in early 2010 and that's when all coaches will fine-tune their teams. In 2000-2001, when Brazil was struggling, we changed coaches twice. In mid-2000, Vanderlei Luxemburgo was fired, but in part because of the fiasco at the Olympics. Between late 1998 and early 2000, he had built a new team - a team whose core did form the 2002 World Cup champion team. In early 2000, Brazil began to struggle in part because Ronaldo was injured. We tied Uruguay at home, but beat you guys 3-1 in Brazil, and beat Peru 1-0. We did not beat Peru in Lima going into 2006 and 2010. So Emerson Leao came, changed the entire team, and we struggled more. His fiasco at the 2001 Confeds cost him his job. So when in July 2001 Luis Felipe Scolari took over, he struggled precisely because he didn't have a team. The one thing he did right was to be consistent in the system he used - a 3-5-2, which he used for the most part in Korea/Japan. Brazil only really had a team finished and ready circa May 2002 - 1 month before the World Cup. So, you guys theoretically do have time to fix your team. But the problem is, your schedule doesn't look that favorable. The final game in Montevideo will be a war - the Uruguayans won today, so they're still in contention. In 2002, we had it "easy" - we had Venezuela as our final match, at home, and even though we only clinched a berth then, we clinched it. We did wonder whether we'd clinch it, but after defeating Paraguay and Chile at home in 2001, we were more optimistic going into the final two games. You're not optimistic right now and that could play a huge role vs. Peru and at Montevideo. So remember - if you guys DO make it to 2010, the next objective is to form a TEAM. For that, you have the material.
Before you start demanding apologies, maybe you should go back and edit your post to remove the parts that refered to us fellow Argentinos as "stupid", "blind" and "clueless". Of course you don't have to but it would be the right thing to do. Enjoy what ever team it is you chose to support over Argentina You know good and well that he didn't abandon the team but was forced out because of Kun's issue with Roman's brother. Diego could have done the right thing and put the interests of the team first but no he chose not to. In retrospect what Roman did spared us all of even bigger drama had he fought Diego and Kun.
i'm pretty sure kun got in a fight with pipita higuain as well. i'm not 100% sure that its true, but if it is, that little scum has cost us two players who could be useful
I'm sorry to hurt your feelings, but demanding an apology while ignoring my point is ridiculous. Do you remember when maradona demanded an apology from the River Plate Stadium owners instead of focusing on fixing the national team? You are doing the same. Until Argentina starts playing to its potential and playing as it SHOULD, anyone who supports this total circus under Maradona is indeed STUPID, BLIND, and CLUELESS. There's no other way about it. Leave personal feelings out of this. I was completely right months ago when i said this would be a disaster. Until I am proven wrong, I will continue to believe what I believe.
Argentina is going to win a world cup in 2451, we will accomplish much then. After Brazil, Spain, England and Italy all get +10 world cup each, we'll still be singing the 1986 NT Anthem song because we'll be so proud to tell our grand kids about two world cups we hold under the great Diego Maradona, who deserves to be called the greatest ever, because of the great goal he scored. Does our emperor want a seat now or does he want be given grapes and fanned as well.
Why does Diego keep insisting on playing this Messi/Tevez or Messi/Aguero strike partnership, it does'nt work. And Gago at this moment is simply not up it at this level. Who do you guys think Diego is gonna call up to replace Veron?
At least we all know that losing to Peru won't qualify them to the WC. Will develop my thoughts tomorrow ... .
Why don't you quit flattering yourself ******? **** off, most people here are opposed to Maradona as DT, and have been since the beginnig. The only true Kool-aid drinker is NYC Cosmos, and even he admits he doesn't want Maradona there. Your belief that YOU - what a joke, who the ***** are you - were the progenitor of this anti-Maradona as DT movement is either bathed in innocent wishful thinking or stupid naivettte. I say the latter. Come back when you've gotten hold of your unjustifiably enlarged ego. *******. Al resto de la gente: Still don't know the answer to this question, posed long ago - To whom is Grondona answerable? Who has the authority in Argentina to fire Grondona? I'm afraid that position doesn't exist. In other words, I don't think he can be fired. Death or resignation, I believe. THAT ... that sucks big sour di(k. He is the problem, and has been. The ultimate corrupt fat fu(k politico. He has to fear for his job, his position and the power it gives him in FIFA - otherwise, he won't change. Maradona, God bless him, is a complete dumbass. Una cebollita que, sin duda, es el mejor jugador que e visto en mi vida. Pero tecnico no es. He's too stupid to underdstand the damage occuring to his name, his reputation. His legend. Everyone who is in Argentina or who has family in Argentina need to hit the airwaves and newspapers with stinging comments about NOT SUPPORTING the team anymore. no games, no merchandise sales, no $, no nothing until a real DT - not Bilardo, not Basile, not one of his ******** cronies - is placed at the helm to salvage this mess. Grondona should be ashamed (cara dura hijo de remil *****) that Brasil are cruising with a B team, that TWO COACHES FROM ARGENTINA WHO ARE NOT HIS CRONIES AND HAVE HALF THE TALENT TO WORK WITH, are leading Paraguay and Chile to the WC. Ashamed, but he isn't. He is bulletproof until his position, his livlihood is threatened. Muchos de nosotros estamos en los Estados Unidos. No podemos hacerlo ... Dale', como Che, luchen por cambio!! Como dijo el hincha de Newell;s Che' "El pueblo unido es el pueblo movilizado..." Get to it *******.
I am truly speechless...All that comes to mind is AfA has no respect or reverence for argentine football this years Pandoras Box has been opened. Lack of professionalism and vision.
BTW, congratulations to Paraguay for making it to the World Cup. And congratulations to our very own Gerardo Martino for doing an excellent coaching job and maximizing the talent that he has.
At least "that taxi driver" got us to the world cup and played some great futbol along the way, didn't he Diego???
But we must not forget that except against Bolivia the team was kinda weak playing away, and days before of the world cup he was heavily criticized because there weren't a definite "starting 11" because he changed depending on the rival. Also i find it a bit sad that players like Palermo, Schiavi and the other day Datolo and Verón still leave a better image than that guy wearing number 10. Maybe it's the time to forget about euro-based players for once.
I say we put in Estudiantes for the next match. Surely they must be better than the national team. It would be interesting, anyhow.
Then again, even before Copa América '04 people wanted to kill Bielsa. Yet every player that has been coached by him talks wonders about him over others, something that doesn't happen with ANY COACH IN THE WORLD. And Martino until now was very much an unknown as a coach... Also, remember that Bielsa prioritized his tactic before names, he called names that suited his tactic not the other name around(something that with our pool of players can be done) that was another reason of why he was criticized, leaving out certain hot topic players because they didn't fit on his system.
I always liked Bielsa actually i was one of those ppl that felt bad when he resigned! i usually never do feel bad when a coach resigns but for him i was like aaaahhhh whyyyyyy? anyhow this NT needs Americo Gallego to teach them some defense
I didn't say Pekerman was perfect, but he's a better DT then Diego could ever even hope to be. Or maybe it's time to call up the euro-based players who actually deserve it like Gonzalo, Samuel, Cambiasso, Aimar, Saviola, Zarate and Higauin.
lool yeah he actually calls up the wrong Euro based players the ones that are sucking with their teams!
This is a brilliant article by marcela: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/sep/09/diego-maradona-argentina-world-cup
