Criticism? What the ******** does he expect? The media has been subdued in regards to the NT ever since Maradona has taken over. What does Maradona want? Does he want Argentina to fail? Does he fear Messi's potential to be better than him? Somebody please rid us of such a paranoid, delusional, hysterical parasite.
If Maradona doesn't resign then im pretty sure his worst nightmare (playing for Brazil) has come true, its the only way to explain palermo and schiavi an co.
All i can say is this.... I want all of those people who argued with me about Maradona's appointment as head coach to come forward and apologize. You people were completely wrong, blind, and clueless about the entire situation, thus proving to me that my fellow argentines are simply too proud of themselves to admit wrongdoing or defeat. I argued with so many people on here that the national team needed brains and tactics in the head coach, not a cheerleader with heart. I would say that half the people on bigsoccer called me stupid and that maradona would prove them right. Now, all of a sudden, everyone is saying they knew maradona would fail. I smell a bull's rear end on that one. Argentinos think with their hearts and not their brains. And these are the results that we get. I'll be looking for another team to root for in the world cup. IF by a slim chance Argentina manages to win the 5th place playoff, they will just embarrass us in front of the world in south africa. It's pathetic that i don't even know which is worse, qualifying and being embarrassed in june, or not qualifying and being embarrassed now. What an absolute joke.
Diego, son, you are a little lost right now. Us, fans, are quite perplexed. Flabbergasted. The players have hit rock bottom. Everybody else is spelling doom for us. Not even doing a Domenech seems to work at the moment. But hey, who said it was going to be easy? Plesae, don't let the circus get to you. We need to focus on the next two games. The biggest test for this great footballing nation has yet to be faced. We all gotta pull together if we are to make it to the WC. A WC without Argentina is like a party without booze. I know you more than anyone want to wake up from this nightmare. But it won't happen without some sacrifices. Diego, you have played countless matches, you have been to plenty of dressing rooms, you have seen the hurting faces , you have felt the urgent fear and you have looked frustration and failure in the eye. This is the time where there are no second chances. Every decision you make is crucial. There is no room for slackers. There is no room for quitters. There is no room for football primadonnas. There is no room for anyone who does not understand what is at stake here. I know you aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer most of the time. People think you are a clown. Others think you are good for what you are, the greatest player ever with a lackluster coaching career. Most likely, that won't change even if we qualify for South Africa. But you know what the shirt means for you and for every single one of us. I don't think it was an embarrassment today. We lost to a solid and efficient team. But I feel you know some players let you and the people down tonight. Act on it, Diego. History will judge for what you do and not for what you could have done. It is too late now for experimenting with new formations and players. Too late. It's 80 years of glorious history knocking at your door, tracking you down, hauntingly closing in on you. It's the call of duty. It's our duty to get this right. Lead must be turned into gold. You are the alchemist, son, prove your still good to go. Or perish in the ever-expanding abyss of mediocrity.
Tonight was a complete disaster. If you told me last week that I would see Palermo and Schiavi put on the field as a last ditch effort to score against Paraguay in a must win situation, I would have thought you were completely out of your mind. Our WC qualification is in doubt and we are fielding this pathetic excuse for a team? I have a sense that there is something seriously wrong brewing in that locker room? There was little desire and no sense of urgency or desperation shown by any of the players on that field. Post game press has Maradona stating that he is not leaving and that he has the support of Grondona. The public is going to have a field day with this tonight and tomorrow and I feel that by the end of the week, Maradona won't be in control of his own destiny. This situation is bad. The decline of this team started in '07 after the Copa America loss to Brazil and it will culminate with a failure to qualify to SA 2010. I'll be making plans for a nice 3 week wilderness trip to Northern Canada in July of 2010. I will be far from any TV and WC news. Who wants to join me?
Wow...that's some trippy sh#t right there! You could only come on my wilderness trip if you bring that stuff you are on!
good post, but mediocrity if putting it nicely. i don't think its too late to bring in new players. the team maradona put out there tonight couldn't beat nuevo chicago at the moment. if you're going to lose, lose with your best players, not your best friends. i know messi/kun don't like riquelme, but the man was essential to everything both good and bad argentina have done for the last 5 years. losing him was like telling spain to function with out xavi. yes, roman disappeared sometimes in big game, but the team was used to him being there, and playing through him. maxi, messi, and even mascherano haven't been the same without him. i also think you'd struggle to find a national team (even brazil) that would have no use for zarate, higuain, or cambiasso. these players would all be called up by almost every team in the top 20 in the world. they would be in the squad, if not on the bench at the least. i also don't think any team would find any purpose of having heinze on the team. real madrid found that out and shipped him off to france. new players must be used in the next to matches if we have ANY chance of winning.
He said he had Grondona's support and he wont leave cause hes not scared! he wont get fired and he wont resign i guaranteed that a couple of days ago and ill guarantee it again but the question i have is isn't Grondona getting scared? cause if they dont make the WC i bet the entire nation will turn on him and call for his head instead of Maradona's? Somwhere in Madrid Higuain is cracking out laud and i have a feeling that no one will save Maradona's a$$ but him
This week will be interesting! I hope that the public calls for his head and that Grondona obliges them.
well put my friend. the man who is really laughing is riquelme. i have a feeling roman was hoping this would happen all along. he wants diego to come begging for him to return.
very true! Messi is slowly becoming exposed that he is not the player everyone thinks he is. if you notice in Barcelona - Xavi is the one who pulls all the strings so Messi can look good. Same goes with the national team. Messi needs JRR... which old timer is Maradona gonna call up next - Ariel Ortega? Schelloto?
I am a huge Riquelme fan, and it hurts me to say this... Go f#ck yourself Juan Roman Riquelme! He abandoned this team and is part of the reason we are in this mess! He should have done whatever possible to put personal issues aside for the love of his country's team. The Argentine National Team is a pathetic soap opera.
We Brasileiros would NEVER throw a game just to keep Argentina from a World Cup. Especially if it was a home game - we have never lost at home in World Cup qualifying. And least of all, against Venezuela. I can't speak for the Paraguayans.
Not being cocky, but we played a bunch of team B today and beat Chile having 10 players in the 2nd half. Chile helps because they play a completely open offensive game. But Venezuela shouldn't be a problem for our Team B. Most will be fighting for remaining spots in the team for the World Cup.
That's not bright. Messi is one person on the field. He has been effectively stopped by 2 or 3 players marking him at his first touch. In Barca, you can't just focus on Messi because Xavi, Iniesta (the real lynchpin) Henry or now Ibrahimovich will kill you. Argentina hasn't been able to fully exploit Messi's talents because he is not partnered with organized and well prepared talent on the national team.
I wonder why Valdez can't do that for Dortmund...he is "king" at missing sitters when he plays for the club.
Messi played great against Brazil, but he was real shit tonight. Maradona left Maxi, Tevez and Lisandro on the bench, and pulled aguero early. Lavezzi, useless as well.
