Let's continue the pre-match, game day and post match discussions to this thread. Like the previous thread please no trolling.
From what i read in ole, maradona will start romero against paraguay.I think sergio is the greatest prospect that argentina have for the gk position but i strongly disagree with diego's philosophy of changing the gk's after one or two matches. This is totally wrong in terms of the player's(here Andujar) confidence. In addition,it may be destructive for romero's confidence too, as this game is a very important one and this will fill him with too much stress.Choices like this are spasmodic and clearly show that diego is in a total mess.At least i hope that he will start licha, but from what i read he is thinking of using these layers:Romero,Zanetti,Schiavi,Heinze,Papa,Veron,Mascherano,Gago,Datolo,Messi and Aguero.I don't like it,but at least it is an away game and maybe playing with two fast and agile forwards will help us on counter-attacks.
If the side that just practiced is the side that starts then we'll see the other nights side with the following changes: Gago for Maxi, Papa for Otamendi and Aguero for Tevez. Tactically we'll see Heinze moved into a central role. The only definitive improvement I see from these changes is Kun starting. http://www.clarin.com/diario/2009/09/07/um/m-01993794.htm
Gago is not national team quality. Why is he favoured over Cambiasso? Is it because he has more hair?
Today fox sports noticias reported that the following team practiced as the first team.... romero zanetti - doming. - hienze- papa veron- gago- mache- datalo messi - aguero Lopez and Milito did not feature on the second team as Palermo and lavezzi occupied their spots. Considering that, it is doubtful that Lopez or Milito will be on the bench for the next match. IF THIS iS TRUE and we will have to see tomorrow when the next practice is reported... I hate the goalie change. To change the goalie at this point shows Maradonas amature nature as a coach. Horrible decision and it reminds me very much of trying a new defense vs Brazil. This is a must win game... why not try a new goalie for the first time. As for the defense. This is awful. Although playing Heinze centrally is better then keeping him on the left side, this again shows maradonas unwillingness to drop him. Papa, i feel for this kid as he will be under enormous pressure which his experience does not warrent. Although argentina does not produce the best defenders internationally, I know of better options that are not on this team. Playing a left back in Heinze as a CB with the playings available is just.... im lost for words. The midfield is awful. Now veron is out of position. They did this in the second half and veron seemed to struggle at times playing through the right. Gago mache in the middle. I like this as it will protect our defense, but Gago has struggled in form and with Lass will rarely feature for Madrid showing that he has really dropped off. Datalo, good player and scored but beyond that wonder goal did not offer too much on the left as he failed multiple times to connect with his forwards. The midfield is awful. As for the forwards, Aguero making the switch is a plus, but again it shows that Maradona does not understand the difference between a supporting forward and a striker. Aguero scores goals while playing behind Forlan, not as the point player. He is now playing out of position as Messi is as well. As a forward his effectiveness is minimized as he now has less players to connect and deliver the ball to while moving forward. On Barca he has atleat 2-3 players to pass to while moving forward, in this formation he only has one option in Aguero. I question where the goals will come from as I just do not see them scoring vs Paraguay from a free flowing play. If they do manage it will be due to a Para mistake or a wonder goal. How can you count on that? I am hopeful of a tie but fearful that with this line up we may find ourselves oon the losing end as Messi, Aguero, Veron, Heinze, are all playing out of position. I hate when peopel believe they can make better decisions then the professionals. However, in this case I really do believe that there are plenty of analysts who could come up with a team and formation that is better then this.
Great analyzation and I completly agree with you about playing players out of positions and the switching goalkeepers and Maradona as a coach and etc. I see three possibilities after the paraguay match 1.A Tie and an out of form Argentina, Maradona is questioned but remains coach 2. Lose and an out of form Argentina is criticized, people ask questions and start to get upset, Maradona is still coach 3.Win with an out of form Argentina, Maradona still coach and everything remains the same Please prove me wrong Maradona!
As soccer9 already pointed out about people saying they can make better decisions than professionals, in this case its worth mentioning who Should be called up, and over who Higuain, Zarate over Palermo---selfevident, doesnt even need an explanation Lilo & Milito over Tevez---Lilo is in better form right now scores regurlaly, Milito, you can see that he was more deadly when he came in vs Brazil (Tevez should still be in the bench though) Cambiasso over Gago & Veron--Unfortunatly Cambi is injured, so we are stuck with gago or Veron, Cambi has been in form with Inter and hopefully I can see him in the squad Samuel over Doming.--same as above with Inter Insua & Garay over Heinze---both are better, simple In the squad--Andujar,Carrizo, (Ustari), Zanetti, Otamendi,Samuel, Garay, Insua, (Demi),(Cambi),Masch,Jonas, Di Maria, Lucho,(Sosa), LiLo, Messi, tevez, Aguero, Milito, Higuain I guess Maradona wants experience over Youth Formation--4-2-1-2-1, 4-2-3-1, (if possible) 4-3-3 However, this is not the time to completely radically change everything for Wendesday, maybe for a do or die situatuion(EXAMPLE VS BRAZIL last Saturday!!!!!!) I kindly accept criticisism
in 2007, england changed goalkeepers right before an epic match against Croatia. the lad's name is scott carson. he was a 22 year old promising keeper but was making his international debut. he made a howler, england lost, and did not qualify. the poor kid has never recovered from that moment and is now toiling in the english second division and not even on capello's radar....romero has won two tournaments at the youth level, but this is quite a moment to make a senior debut. i hope maradona doesn't ruin this kid. he's the future.
http://www.goal.com/es/news/27/liga...barcelona-gaby-milito-deja-de-tener-molestias it really is a tragedy about gabi. he's the player we've been missing. possible candidate as a captain if he ever recovers.
As stated it's unknown when Milito will recover. Demichellis will take a bit longer, and Cambiasso... huh... is he injured? So today this would be the lineup for Paraguay. ------------------Andujar/Romero ----------Zanetti--Schiavi--Heinze--Papa -Verón/Salvio--Mascherano--Gago--Datolo ------------------Messi-----Lisandro/Palermo Another rumour is floating around that Coloccini could replace Zanetti, but it's unlikely.
im actually getting really excited about romero. i love his little video blog he has posted on his website. he really lights up when he talks about how happy is to be in the CL this year and two be called up to the argentina team. i'm sure he never thought he would be starting when he recorded it, and its not the ideal time for him to play, but congrats to him. hes accomplished so much at such a young age, i hope our defense doesn't hang him out to dry http://www.sergioromero.net/index.php
I think with this formation Diego is going to play with 4-3-3 sistem, thomething like Barca's sistem. ------------- Romero ---------------- Zaneti -- Dominguez -- Heinze -- Papa ----------- Mascherano ------------- ----- Gago ------------ Veron ------- Messi --------------------------Datolo ------------- Aguero ---------------- Let's see. I don't think such formation+sistem will get any normal result. Let us hope, Argentina gets draw and after, Grondona MUST think about new coach.
For what i can read here from dutch users and in other places Romero is on a very high regard in Netherlands doing a fantastic job defending AZ's goal. Finally he'll get his chance.
Don't expect much folks. I think we should prepare for an upset people. And be mentally prepared for the worst here, meaning no world cup. I am a positive person but be advised what is happening here. They are going to defend and we are just going to pass the ball around. I knew we were going to lose against the bras just by seeing the central defender positions. maradroga seems hellbent on ruining another cup along with the directors of AFA. By the way kirchner, I heard is responsible for the appointment of this retard.
i'd believe it. without trying to make this a political discussion, but i'd like that woman and her husband shipped to antarctica. they have more pressing matters to deal with than football. although nestor is spending his time ranting at clarin for attacking him.
Yeah because Kirchner and Grondona want the national team to fail... And like it or not what they did with the TV rights is helping the clubs was something that was needed.
maradona is changing Goalkeeper? HE HAS COMPLETELY LOST HIS ********ING MIND!!! Like Romero could have stop any of those goals from Brazil.. All this shit started with Basile and I'm a FIRM believer that no Coach should get a second Shot. 4 years and you are gone. Simple. We have committed the cardinal sin of not only Hiring Dumb-ass Maradona but having that piece of shit Bilardo pulling the Strings.. God help...
No idea what that has to do with anything, it seems the topic has been derailled long ago, but Batista dropped him on the last second. No offense, but many people thinks otherwise, that Bilardo should be more influential. I'm closer to your opinion however. Sure changing the keeper is not needed but in the end i don't think it'll hurt.
just a Q man he plays for Independiente and is doing pretty good so just wanted to see what u think of the kid thats all
Ah, i thought it was meant to be something random. Yeah i think he's an interesting player with lots of potentials, though he's young his appearances was delayed a bit, apparently he had physical problems it's said he used to lose a lot of weight after matches, still he seems to be one of these "cheeky with ball" kind of players. I still don't know why Batista didn't take him to the U20 qualifiers, maybe he could've added something. Let's see if he finally finishes with his "Patito" phase to finally become "Pato".
lol yah i was impressed by the last 2 matches he played hes a pretty good passer but is he having health problems? will it hurt him later in his career? cause he looks loaded with potential and is pretty dangerous in counter attack situations making plays and stuff
http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/argieb...le-optimism-after-diego-s-derby-disaster.aspx Good article i didnt know Heinze blamed Dominguez for the oal and pointed at him! WoooW i guess we have issues with the players now good job Heinze u have a loser's mentality which is blaming others how many times did you make shitty mistakes and Ayala would always cover up for you and the idiots around you didnt you learn anything from that guy? no wounder you turned into an idiot yourself lately! And you guys want his team to qualify? this team doesnt deserve to qualify with this blaming mentality that it garbage attitude almost every player Messi included should be pissed at Heinze right now
