St. Louis' stadium got passed. So what? Are they the number 4 media market? I think not.
Re: The Sky is Falling (Philly Edition) I'm not worried. I'm confident that if the funding comes through MLS will say yes to Philly. The St Louis Cleveland Steamers and Seattle are unimportant to me.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Nobody's going to be optimistic? Or at least show false bravado? How about this: There is no West Coast #15 Team. Garber was holding his map upside down, putting Philadelphia/Chester on the West Coast.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Garber was referring to an 1803 map and thought St Louis was on the west coast (pre manifest destiny)
Re: The Sky is Falling (Philly Edition) About CitBro he also said..."WHEN, not if..." C'mon. MLS without Philly? What kind of half-assed league is that?
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) as much as i'd love to post something positive and uplifting in this thread, i'm too much of a negadelphian ... see me in the "sky is falling" thread.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Just want to interject something here: From what I have read, it sounds like the stadium in Chester would not be ready until 2010, right? From what I have been reading re: the Collinsville stadium, they want to have it ready by 2009. Seattle has Qwest ready now to use. Garber has talked about the possibility of having 18 teams by 2012. You still have possibilities with either Vegas and/or a 2nd NY team. Maybe, just maybe, Philly will get a team...but just not for 2009. They could get it for 2010, when the stadium would actually be ready.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Let's not forget... Chester Officials - on board! Governor of Pennsylvania - on board! Deep Pocketed investors - on board! Kick ass supporters - on board! SSS location & plan - ready to go! MLS Officials - recently in town and on board! No worries Philly. This is our time to shine and we WILL be cheering on a team in Chester by 2010!
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Question... Will they let us play in a different venue in 2009 and then the Chester location when finished?
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) SJ doesn't have a stadium yet, but they got a team because they are a city that will be once again good for the league. Philly will get a team without a stadium before St. Louis gets one with a stadium. The league would rather have us as Rovers I bet than to put St. Louis in the league. How much longer do you think this league will go on without the 4th largest media market in the country? C'mon.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Well, they've done it for 12 seasons so far. The difference between having Philly in 2009 versus 2010 or 2011, in the grand scheme of things, is not that big. I can't imagine the league telling either the Seattle, St Louis or Philly ownership groups 'Sorry...all full.' if they are all sound. My guess is that one will get pushed back a year or two. If Chester isn't going to get done until 2010 anyways, maybe Philly will be that one. If MLS announces in December that Seattle and St Louis will start play in 2009, and that Philly and an 18th team would start play in 2010, would that be so bad?
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) I think I hate Seattle and its stupid misspelled stadium, which pumps in crowd noise during football games. What kind of support is that.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Exactly, if that's the kind of stuff MLS wants let them have it. Fie on them.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) I watched the Sounders USOC Semi against Dallas. Since the rest of the stadium was dead, I believe the supporters club had to be responsible for the worst soccer chant I've ever heard - "Defense, Sounders, Defense" - like it was a college game.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Sounds like Bring it on! & Bring it on Again!--Where is Kirsten Dunst when Seattle needs her?
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) Why do you do this to us...throw us a tidbit of info all mysterious like? You must know something! Please elaborate!!
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) I heard that a team could play at Franklin Field, the Linc, or a combo of the two last year during the Wizards potential move. I would believe that adding extra dates in the spring would be attractive to the Linc and adding a couple of dates at FF wouldn't interfere with Penn Football in the fall. These were verified by quotes from a Penn newspaper, if I recall correctly. I imagine that the importance of entering the fourth largest media market would have league officials burning the midnight oil to cement this arrangement for 09 if the investors can get the votes they need. Does this make Philly more attractive than Seattle for 09? No - but it does in time for 2010. Does it make it more attractive than St Louis? Not in the short term. But since this is our be happy thread, I want a team and I will gladly use any twisted logic needed to convince myself that I won't be teamless in 09.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) When was the last time Garber reiterated his '16 teams only by 2010' comment? Everyone's been sticking to that in their worries about the expansion competition, but I don't recall him saying anything in particular since Seattle/St. Louis/Philly has gotten so hot and heavy.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) That sounds great. Our real rivals are Chicago, so St. Louis won't miss them. if KC moves to Philadelphia, that can only be good for MLS in the long run.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) The Wizards were talking about relocation last year. It is no longer in the cards. Philly is expansion or bust right now.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) More accurately, we are not looking to swipe someone else's team. Nobody should. It just ain't cool. But who knows what the future economics of the league holds, so 'Bust' may be too strong a word.
Re: Bobby McFerrin (Philly Edition) I just don't want "Move KC/DC/RSL/NY/CHIV" threads popping up all over.
