"One reason for pay gap: Women don't speak up"
"men, on the other hand, were more likely to squawk for a fatter paycheck."
One area where male whining pays off, literally?

Outside of asking price in inital hiring process. There isn't much to this and a company will penny pinch you. See likability already. Your company raise is a product of the system. Whether for time in or unremarkable acheivements (whatever). The Management seemingly takes a direct hit in that regards.
So the article enlists negotiation but that already takes a hit. The mother of all mothers only pays a minimum wage unfit. She knows this sub-consciously and this henders first impressions. However; the woman in an experience situation will make better judgements. So basically if a woman has experience over man. The woman can preform better. They tend to adabt faster in that regards. Its true. Howelse they gonna go from one cave to the next...

A lot of speculation and anecdotal evidence.

Is there a way to do a study on this? Honestly, I think it's some combination of not speaking up, and the "Good Ole Boys" network rewarding their golf buddies.

But it's also mind numbingly obvious. Of course, the essay stupidly turns it into a blame game:

When what she's noticing is the expected result of a patriarchal culture that programs boys to be aggressive, competitive, "me-first" thinkers while programming girls to be just the opposite.

She has this vapid "I guess we're just lame negotiators" attitude, as if it's all just some cosmic coincidence.

Forgot to take the meds today?
    What passes for research today?
"Pink, a women’s business magazine, found that nearly half of 2,400 women surveyed did not ask for a raise, additional benefit or promotion in the past 12 months. And alas, they’re missing out, because 72 percent of those who asked got what they wanted, according to the survey."
Plus, quotes from Susan Wilson Solovic, author of "The Girls’ Guide to Power and Success." and John McKee, a business success coach and author of “21 Ways Women in Management Shoot Themselves in the Foot.”

I've never noticed women being meek and quiet when it comes to money issues before. Not in the social world, and certainly not in the legal profession.

I must live on another planet because in my profession women are compensated on the same level as men. I hear about this gap but I just don't see it in my daily life.

If one were so inclined they could easily take this comment out of context and have a lot of fun with it.

But I'm far too mature and sophisticated for that sort of thing. :D
