Here is some interesting language from Tim Leiweke, CEO of the Galaxy. In comments most pertinent to the Beckham-to-Milan situation he states (in reference to uncertainties within the Galaxy team/organization??):
This seems to imply that info is circulating about Donovan leaving and that a number of people know about it. Maybe it's a situation no different from last year or maybe it is different.

The difference is that his contract expires after this season.

Then I might as well get in on the ground floor. I'll vote for ... Spain.

Not really, the league has 2 option years. And considering he's underpaid (on a world scale), it's unlikely they won't exercise them.

Not the most exciting rumor at this point in time. Celtic currently sit bottom of their Europa League group (while Rangers sit bottom of their Champions League group). The Old Firm isn't what it used to be.

Not to mention that Landon would be foolish to go to the SPL at this point in his career.

This is tribal football. Enough said. I'd kill for this to happen, but for more than a few reasons I think Donovan would be very reluctant to go to Celtic.

Living in SoCal he should be used to that type of weather.
Ugh! I hope he doesn't go to Celtic. He's got to have better options.

interesting, thought i heard recently that Celtic were loosening the purse strings alot in January, like they were really going to open the checkbook.

I figure donovan will cost 5 mil pounds absolute minimum

Deportes can be a little wishy-washy with their rumors so I'd take this with a grain of salt. I will say, I'd actually he up for this. Instantly, he'd be the most hated player in the Primera División on arguably the most hated club.

    Re: Donovan rumors?

Definitely not. The board have made it abundantly clear they are not going into debt... all of our signings in January will have to be paid for by selling players off or dumping some contracts, with the exception of maybe 1-2mil that they'll give Mowbray to start out. The financial situation in Scottish soccer is pretty terrible right now.

    Re: Donovan rumors?

sorry, but when Donovan teaches scotsmen how to play football with Celtic, what will that do for anyone? He'll get payed less than in Spain, he'd probably be injured, because he's a step faster than al the other players there and they love to hack like MLS, and in the end, playing for Celtic doesn't increase anyone's persona anymore. He needs to go to Spain

    Re: Donovan rumors?

If it is between Celtic and 12th place Ligue 1 Paris St. Germain or 18th place Serie A Livorno then Celtic is the better choice. But, if there are clubs in England like Sunderland or Aston Villa bidding then Celtic won't stand a chance.

While Caltic might not be the ideal destination for someone like Donovan, there is no doubt that a successful loan there will get the attention of more appealing suitors.

I would rather him go on loan to a club like Celtic, which will dominate most teams they play, than a club at the bottom of the EPL table, which will be dominated in most games they play.

If its a loan then it'd be okay. As a transfer I think it'd be stupid for him to go.

Might as well stay home as go to Celtic. Not enough of a difference from MLS.

Why is Celtic a better place for him than PSG or Livorno? SPL is not the kind of league Donovan needs to be in. I still think Spain is his best fit and I'd say SPL is maybe the worst.

exactly. Other than the Old Firm the MLS is possibly better than the SPL imo.
