Postgame interviewer:"Any chance the loan gets extended?" Landon smiles and says: "There is a chance ... we'll know more this week."
Ives tweets: "Landon Donovan just did a farewell lap around Goodison, clapping and waving goodbye to the crowd. More USA chants break out. "
I'd just like to point out that a double digit Premier League goalscorer last season hasn't looked even remotely threatening in six games now for Hull. Just to give an idea what life as a Hull city striker is like.
Hull is a nice place for Jozy to get some game time and stay in soccer shape. He is also learning how to use his body to better hold off defenders. I hope he finds a better situation next year - preferably a team committed trying to actually play soccer. As fo Donovan, it was a beautiful game to watch from a fan's perspective. He started with what should have been an assist on an inch-peferct cross to Yakubu. His goal was a world-class strike. His final assist was even better. Best of all was the appreciation shown to him by the fans at Goodison Park.
It was he was completely unmarked at the back post and finished it flawlessly. Yeah that ball was zeroed. To find Yakubu with that ball, which was perfectly weighted as well. All Yakubu had to do was get a good side foot to that and it's a goal. Shamefully Yakubu couldn't hit a barndoor today. Like I said in the Everton thread. This was Sitter Finishing 101 with Landon and Jack. Yakubu needing serious remedial training.
That was not the way he made out. It was more like he was honestly saying he wants to stay and negotiations are going to take place this week. Edit: Studio analyst for the game on Sky just said, "I think (Moyes) will get (Donovan) back here."
Jozy is not in a good spot and now I hope Hull get relegated. The whole team were trash today and you can't excuse him either. He looked lost for much of his time. Yes, the service is crap but he seemed out of position a few times and seemed to not make properly timed runs. However, this was a historically bad performance for Hull. The team had given up before he even got on the pitch. There are just not a lot of positives to go on. So happy for LD though! Maybe Everton can take Jozy, if Landon must return!
Then we play football at far and away different standards. Then again, I'm not surprised. Tom Cairney was amazing today. He was about Hull's only good player though. I wouldn't want Altidore. We've already got two huge bulky African strikers in Yak and VA.
I agree that LD's goal was NOT a sitter. The angle and keeper's position made it a requirement to strike the ball with perfection--which obviously was done.
I've said it before - I would rather have Jozy riding the pine at Villareal than playing for this abortion of a soccer team known as Hull City. They looked like abused spouses out there. Like they had convinced themselves they deserved the ass kicking they were absorbing from Everton. "We're down two goals and we don't know how to mark we quit!" Three great plays in about three minutes for Donovan... I wonder what Altidore could do with that kind of service?
From Jozy you get the feeling that's all he is learning how to do: Shield the ball. He has a tremendous near post shot that he can tee up very quickly and yet we never see it and he seems to have forgotten how to use it.
Landon's goal was an absolute laser. The angle from behind the goal showed it so much better. Myhill couldn't even see the ball. For Jozy, just another game where his appearance is a series of back-to-goal touches only to be ignored by his teammates after he gives them possession. I ask again, why is Hull City's back 4 always the same when they are clearly the weakest part of the team? Yet Hull's front 6 is never the same.
He was talking about how well he took his chance. Can we just leave it at that? The news for me apart from an Everton win and Arteta's best game since his return is that Landon busted out of his mini-slump... And it's clear that Everton's supporters want him is virtually unanimous. Waldo's little rant on him last week is clearly just classic Waldo BS.
That's all I'm doing stating my opinion. Donovan was free at the far post about 8 yards out and you'd expect him to score which he duly did. It was a sitter and he dealt with it as it should have been, absolutely banged right back into the side netting.
