Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Hey KMJVet, How 'bout them Spurs? We Quakes/Spurs fans should probably have a collective cry in our Boddingtons.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Reminds me of July 4th, 1991 when the newspaper sports headline was about the folding of the Salt Lake Sting of the old WSL/ASL. (In that league, we used to sometimes play a team from San Fransisco whose name escapes me at the moment). Kind of put a damper on that holiday for me at the time. My condolences go out to the bay area soccer fans. Hope someday things work out and you get another franchise with good owners and a sweet stadium deal.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Gosh Mike. Do you have to be so cold hearted as many of us here sit at our computers hurting and in tears? Can't you just let people feel what they feel? And this goes for all BS posters who want to come here a pour salt in our wounds. Please.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Well. The salt will go well with the gravy pouring out of yours. We should be over in expansions with a ?? anytime now.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. ] analogy: resemblance in some particulars between things otherwise unlike One thing I won't miss in not having a team is BigSoccer trolls.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I'm sorry to see the team move. I feel bad for you guys. Now what rivalry will be the best now that the SJ vs. LA rivalry is gone?
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. Hey, Spurs are looking pretty good. Still having little problems finishing off some teams they should dispatch handily, but above the Arse in the table is always good. Glory! Glory! And I've supported Monterrey for a number of years and they've got an incredibly exciting bunch of forwards and some wonderful creative midfield players...and the final starts today so I'm doing pretty well right now in certain other respects footy-wise. I'll always love the Quakes, but there's some good things going on to soften the blow since I don't see the EPL or the MFL jacking their fans or teams around moving them anywhere.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. This response is a lot less appropriate than Mike's assertion that it's bogus comparing losing a team to child abuse.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. This is going to make make for some very enticing television in 2007. What will you folks do when Houston rolls into town? How will you react?
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. God I'm so sorry you guys. I can't in any way lie and say I'm not excited to have a team down here, but you all know how much I did not want to be at the expense of the Earthquake fans. I can't believe this went down the way it did. I'll still be a proud supporter of the new team, but it won't be the same at all anymore. I'll try and do yall proud.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. That's a tough one..I think i would give the former Quake players a standing ovation cuz it's not their fault they moved.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I am really sorry to hear the bad news folks. We have only had a team here in SLC for one season and I know I would be positively devastated if they took my team away! I hope that MLS get you another team very soon.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I did NOT compare losing a team to child abuse. It was a response to a post about "why blame AEG" and not about what it's like or how it feels to lose a team. I made an analogy between how an owner of a team (the parent) treated on of its teams (the child) as an explanation as to why we don't actually love our ex-owner (the parent) even when outsiders think they're good parents wanting to move their child to a different boarding school.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. I'm not going to watch the MLS on television any more. EPL and MFL are better leagues anyway.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. He had to qualify his answer with something like, "I think the galaxy and Houston team will also be a good rivalry". Yes, fed by that famous SoCal-South Texas rivalry.
Re: Done deal -- Quakes to Houston. well, at least it looks like san jose is a top candidate for expansion in 2007. and the quakes name would be retained. here's an excerpt from the latest article from the Mercury News... "No official announcement was made in San Jose, but on an MLS conference call this afternoon, it was revealed that the city and MLS have signed a letter of intent that provides a wide variety of support elements, including a stadium financing plan, to attract a local investor for an expansion team as early as 2007. The Earthquakes' name, colors and records have been retained for the expansion team. ``It is our intention to bring Major League Soccer back to the Bay Area with a new expansion team as early as 2007,'' MLS Commissioner Don Garber said. ``MLS is committed to working with local business leaders and city officials to continue these efforts. With the support of the city of San Jose, a local ownership group and a soccer-specific stadium, professional soccer can be very successful in Northern California.''"
